CHINESE CRACKDOWN ON TIBETAN BUDDHISM

A report published for the People’s Republic of China’s second Universal Periodic Review

https://www.fidh.org/IMG/pdf/en-report-tibet-4.pdf

Please read.
These are nothing but CIA propangada. Paint some bogus link does not make it truth.

I see.

They are doing this because they are happy in tibet and china is not destroying their culture.

Very convincing.

I guess it makes sense for the chinese to go all the way to Afghanistan to demonstrate solidarity with Buddha than take a trip to Tibet :coffee:
They doing it becos they are brainwash by CIA influence Dalai Lama.

You mean those Islamist jihadist enjoy blowing themselves up or set themselves on fire?

Thankfully I do not live behind an Iron curtain that restricts my internet freedom. This way I don't have to be "educated" the Chinese way.

A simple google search gives me anything I want to know.

lol...what propaganda ?

So self immolation is the same as a suicide bomber ?
the internet fire wall is there to protect all the outsider, can you imagine that if there is NO fire wall, then all the comments in the world will be Chinese Characters, because there are too many fake news about China.

Many countries have the similar blocking system and guess what, I m typing from Beijing and I have unrestricted access to everything. There are tons of VPN free or paid service in China and mine is 2 dollars a month which gives me a perfect fast internet. China has the world biggest internet user population , over 700 million, average Chinese has much more internet access and online education means than Indians, VPN is very convenient and cheap to use but most Chinese choose not to use. English is not a widely used language in China and most Chinese don't see any point to access foreign websites. There are hundreds of thousands of foreign expats living in China and all of them use VPN, it doesn't cause them any inconvenience.

To you the Dalai Lama is a living god , to us he is just a CIA lapdog, If you have the money and means you can do that and worship your living god every day.

Haha, for once I agree with you - in part, of course.

I, for one, certainly do not think it was a waste of time and effort. If anything, more of this kind of work would be helpful in preserving our knowledge of the past.

That is true but the Taliban did have a slightly valid reason for blowing up, not that the reason was completely correct or morally ok and went way too far but the reason was sorta valid.

That's nonsense and a complete misunderstanding of what idol-worship is - and relevance of statues of the Buddha in Buddhism.

The obligation to destroy idols applies where idols are believed to be the gods themselves. Buddhism is a nontheistic religion and there is no concept of a 'god' in the way other religions perceive. Statues of the buddha are, at most, an embodiment of a revered figure and not a god in themselves.

Besides my understanding is that the Koran makes a distinction between a timthal (figurine or statue) and sanam - i.e. a statute being worshipped. That distinction is relevant in making out a case for destruction. By that logic, the sphinx in Egypt, Assyrian bust relief and Zorastrian figures of Ahura Mazda should have also been demolished in Egypt and Iran long ago - but they still exist. Surely the Taliban were not more devout muslims than the caliphates that ruled Iran and Egypt.

Mullah Omar, in fact, did not blow up the Bamiyan Buddha as a religous duty. He did it apparently, because he thought humanitarian money was being 'wasted' on preservation that diverted attention from food, etc. Nothing to do with Islam.

I did not want to destroy the Bamiyan Buddha. In fact, some foreigners came to me and said they would like to conduct the repair work of the Bamiyan Buddha that had been slightly damaged due to rains. This shocked me. I thought, these callous people have no regard for thousands of living human beings -- the Afghans who are dying of hunger, but they are so concerned about non-living objects like the Buddha. This was extremely deplorable. That is why I ordered its destruction. Had they come for humanitarian work, I would have never ordered the Buddha's destruction.[58]

LOL:jester:

How about projecting an giant image of Dalai Lama in Tibet ? Don't you think they should first do that before venturing out to Afghanistan ?

Why would anyone want to do that? Dalai Lama is against buddhism, if the idea that Dalai Lama is a reincarnation of the previous one is true then there should cows and monkeys as the Dalai Lama

Yes, maybe you can ask the muslim in Indian kashmir about their right? :enjoy:

You're really good at breaking the subject.
Maybe we should be projected India bus gang-rape victim, or the Twice Gujarat Holocaust victims.
Do you think?

I never brought up Idol worship. I know he didn't want to blow up the Statues because I literally just gave the quote saying that he did not want to blow it up.

You do know it wasn't for religious intolerance.

The Taliban leader was completely fine with the statues being there, he honestly didn't care.

He actually tried preserving them.

In July 1999, Mullah Mohammed Omar issued a decree in favor of the preservation of the Bamiyan Buddha statues. Because Afghanistan's Buddhist population no longer exists, so the statues are no longer worshiped, he added: "The government considers the Bamiyan statues as an example of a potential major source of income for Afghanistan from international visitors. The Taliban states that Bamiyan shall not be destroyed but protected."[52]

In early 2000, local Taliban authorities asked for UN assistance to rebuild drainage ditches around tops of the alcoves where the Buddhas were set.[53]

The Taliban supreme leader Mullah Omar explained why he ordered the statues to be destroyed in an interview:

I did not want to destroy the Bamiyan Buddha. In fact, some foreigners came to me and said they would like to conduct the repair work of the Bamiyan Buddha that had been slightly damaged due to rains. This shocked me. I thought, these callous people have no regard for thousands of living human beings -- the Afghans who are dying of hunger, but they are so concerned about non-living objects like the Buddha.
