ANHUI, CHINA - A student sold his kidney for 20,000 yuan (S$3,800) to buy an iPad 2.

The 17-year-old boy named Xiao Zheng, wanted the gadget but did not have money. He then found out online that he could sell his kidney for fast cash.

The person told the teenager he could get 20,000 yuan if he sold his kidney.

Three men, believed to be members of an organ selling syndicate, met the boy at a hospital in Chenzhou, Hunan, on April 28 to have his kidneys removed.

They gave him an extra 2,000 yuan when they left.

Xiao Zheng's mother found out what had happened three days later when he returned home with a laptop and an iPad.

After he told her what had happened, she brought him back to Chenzhou and lodged a police report. The men who had given him the money could not be contacted as their phones were switched off.

The boy has expressed regret over his actions, saying his health had deteriorated ever since his kidney was removed.:disagree:

hmm and you the Think tank hold the stats to compare. Genius stop posting things out of shear hatred. Anyways nothing better can be expected from a person like you.

Sigh, Anhui again. Anhui is home to the worst criminals in China. This is nothing. A few years back, criminals from Anhui would beat their own children until they were disabled, and then put them on the streets to beg.

Ironic that President Hu was born in Anhui too.

Life's not fair darling.

I hope these scumbags get arrested. Unfortunately such organ gangs are rife in the sub continent too.

Government should do more to encourage organ donation.

Sadly, disabling kids and putting them on the streets to beg is not restricted to the Anhui region only. i heard such kind of a thing happening in India as well years ago. Kids are vulnerable and there are some degraded human beings who take advantage of them.

Its quite common in Indonesia and the Philippines as well, though I must say exchanging body parts for unnecessary material wants is really silly. This boy learnt it the hard way I guess

IMO these scumbags should be shot

In Singapore its a compulsory opt in Program for Organ donation, if you opt out the chances of getting an organ transplant if you need one goes down if you were not on the nation donors list

That seems like the perfect solution. Wish India could implement something similar, although population of 1.2 Billion doesn't help. Bringing in any new rules and regulation in India is a Pita, let alone implementing the rules and laws.

And the boy was just 17 bro, can't really blame him, at that age everyones gullible and going through the rigors of adolescence.

Big population indeed poses an issue, then again Singaporeans are quite subservient to the government (maybe its the drinking water hrmm) :D

Ultimately so long as there's poverty Organ trading will always exist, a Singapore tycoon was arrested for trying to buy a kidney from Indonesia or Philippines mainly because could not get a organ in time. Desperate people desperate measures.
