Haha, China will do what is in their best interests, not West's interests.

India, on the other hand, will act against its own interest and sacrifice itself for the west. That is the slave mentality of India.

China's Xi Jinping's Future With West, Not Russia, Putin: US State Department

Chinese President Xi Jinping's future is with Western nations, such as the U.S. and "not with Russia and Vladimir Putin," U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman said on Friday.

While appearing on MSNBC's Morning Joe, Sherman spoke about China's response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the Asian nation's relations with the U.S.

"We are all very candid, very direct about what has to happen here, what great powers must do, what the responsibility is of Xi Jinping if he wants to be a true leader on the world stage, if he wants to sign up to the principles of the U.N. Charter, which he says he does," Sherman said. "So we will see whether, in fact, Xi Jinping makes the right choice here. His future is with the United States, with Europe, with developing countries around the world. His future is not with Russia and Vladimir Putin."

The comments by Sherman come ahead of U.S. President Joe Biden's call with Xi scheduled for Friday. A statement from the White House said that Biden and Xi plan to discuss "Russia's war against Ukraine and other issues of mutual concern," as well as the relationship between China and Russia.

Amid the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, the U.S. and other Western nations, including NATO, have called on China to condemn Russia.

During a press conference on Thursday, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that the U.S. believes "China, in particular, has a responsibility to use its influence with President Putin and to defend the international rules and principles that it professes to support."

However, Blinken said that "it appears that China is moving in the opposite direction by refusing to condemn this aggression while seeking to portray itself as a neutral arbiter."

As Blinken said, China has yet to take a concrete stance on the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The Global Times, a Chinese state-run news outlet, recently wrote in an op-ed that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine is a "difficult problem to solve."

"In this context, portraying their military conflict as good versus evil is not rational and detrimental to address it," the Global Times wrote.

During an interview on Friday morning, Sherman made similar comments on China's relationship with Russia and Putin.

"China needs to stand on the right side of history," Sherman said. "Their future is not to stand with Vladimir Putin."

Newsweek reached out to the Chinese Foreign Ministry for comment but did not receive a response in time for publication.

Both Biden and Blinkens lacks a convincing sales pitch.

How about adding a tiny bit of sincerity but in the opinions of many nations including ASEAN, US administration are trained to lie, cheat and steal.

Relentlessly attacking China over trade, Xinjiang, Tibet, Inner Mongolia, Taiwan, Hong kong and suddenly now claiming China's future is with the west.... what kind of "future" they are talking about?

.
A new, global wide trade and financial bloc is forming, with China, Russia, India, Iran, Saudi, ASEAN, etc., and of course, Pakistan.

- No hegemony of US Dollars, no sanctions and trade as you need.
- Countries can make their own decisions based on their national interests. No one would force you to pick side. It is ok that China and Pakistan will still have border conflicts with India, while Saudi and Iran will continue competing in Middle East.
- Rich in technology, industrial productivity, natural resources and fuel.
- Unparallelly big population with relatively lower income and hence massive market potentials.

Exactly. It’s a future where China is constantly chained up and abused by some narcissistic maniac with zero self awareness

wow, threats from Biden on Xis Face.. How would China respond ?
Jen Psaki says that? No details of "threat"? Our spokesperson says differently, a quick summary:
  • Biden reiterated that the U.S. does not seek to have a new Cold War with China or to revitalize alliances against China, does not support "Taiwan independence" or intend to seek a conflict with China. Xi said "I take these remarks very seriously."
  • Xi slammed previous U.S. administration for China-U.S. relationship getting out of the predicament
  • Xi slammed "some people" in the U.S. have sent a wrong signal to "Taiwan independence" forces, adding "this is very dangerous."
  • Biden expounded on the U.S. position on Ukraine, and expressed readiness for communication with China to prevent the situation from exacerbating. Xi reiterated the long standing principles underpin China's approach to the Ukraine crisis.
  • Xi warned against any sweeping and indiscriminate sanctions which will only cripple the already languishing world economy and cause irrevocable losses
  • Xi said U.S. and NATO should have dialogue with Russia
  • The two Presidents directed their teams to promptly follow up and take concrete actions to put China-U.S. relations back on the track of steady development, and make respective efforts for the proper settlement of the Ukraine crisis.

China's future is with China. Everything else is periphery.

People have short memory.
Didn't John McCain go to Ukraine's Maidan square and tell the Ukrainians their future was in Europe ?

It's now 8 years after Victoria Nuland regime change.

How did it turn out ?

Fast forward 8 years. Millions of Ukrainians are now in Europe...as refugees !

A future like Japan's. Grovel and keep your place in a hierarchy that is always belows the white man.

We saw the "future" they proposed with what happened with the Plaza Accord and with Huawei.

Any Chinese company who leads its sector will come under attack.

Any non-white country, even a groveling ally like Japan, will be crushed if dares to grow wealthier than the US.
