It's even a benefit to the local economy. Sure, US troops have brought some crime with them too, but US soldiers and their families also bring economic benefits such as partaking in the services and consumption of products in their host nation, which means they are paying taxes too, assuming the nation has a sales tax.
Norway is home to a few thousand US Marines, and yet we are still world leaders HDI measures like per-capital income, quality of life, life expectancy, and last I checked, our nation's economy was doing fine. Commodities prices have put a tapper on some earnings, but the US military being in Norway hasn't.
You make a very good point, having bases or foreign troops stationed in your nation doesn't cramp or crimp a nation, it even helps.
USMC in Norway:
If having them stationed in our nation makes us prostitutes, as has been suggested, when we must be 1st class wh*res.
Plus no one parties like the Americans do !
Unfortunately Norwegians get tipsy ever after 1-2 pints of mead !
Maybe because the Swedes are the real Vikings !
