The first flight of a Chinese-built stealth drone has been reported by state media, who have named the craft "Sharp Sword".
The country has been testing a number of stealth aircraft over the last few years. The Chengdu J-20 and Shenyang "Falcon Hawk" J-31 have both undergone flight tests, with the expectation that they'll become operational towards the end of the decade.
According to eyewitnesses, "Sharp Sword" flew for 20 minutes around Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province in Southwest China. Few further details are available.
However, China is pushing hard to match the United States' drone capabilities. Other countries experimenting with unmanned aerial vehicles include Britain, France, and Israel.
The drone's reveal comes as China extends its air-defence zone over a region of the East China Sea that includes islands claimed by its regional rival Japan. China's Defence Ministry said aircraft entering the zone must obey its rules or face "emergency defensive measures".
