In Shanghai, if you even wants to buy a small apartment in the very suburb area, you need to pay 6500USD per m2, if in the very central area, the price will over 18000USD per m2. Thinking merry with Chinese girl in Shanghai? The wedding ceremony, only the ceremony AT LEAST cost you 35000USD, and the guys must have a house in local area, a car(same car is 5 or 6 times more expensive than in USA), and a strong heart(since your Chinese wife probably cannot cook meals or clean the house, but always want to a new genaration iphone when they have just released). If you can understand this, you know a real China. If you take care this, please come and live in China.

Shanghai's cost of living is far from the reality in greater China.
For property, those with Shanghai hukou and exisiting property have it much easier, they can live comfortably making 5000 RMB a month when those from outside of Shanghai coming in will struggling on 10k+ rmb. A lot of women actively seek Shanghainese men with run down "traditional housing" in hopes of those getting demolished and relocated.
Not all chinese women are like that. Only the local shanghainese and a handful of other first tier city have the "have house, have car and have RMB savings" requirement to marriage. As for the weddings in shanghai, usually every guest gift a "red envelope with at least 500 RMB per head" when they attend the ceremony and Chinese weddings are usually filled with dozens and dozens of banquets, in fact netizens joke about ceremonies making money.
And only the local shanghainese men have the reputation of "buy, wash, cook".
