Thats quite ambitious. What is the largest tonnage of combat naval ship china has built until now?
Isn't J-15 similar to Mig-33?

Whereas China has zero experience with aircraft carriers. 0 to 100,000T is a mighty leap.

Building a 40,000 tons second hand carrier is virtually useless for us.

We do need those 100,000 tons babies. That's why the 68,000 tons Varyag only serves as a training ship.

I don't think China will build a carrier the size of Gerald Ford class anytime soon. The Varyag will likely enter service later this year or early next year, and the refit process has been painfully slow. The next step after Varyag would be an indigenious carrier of equivilent size prior to moving into supercarriers.

There is still the matter of crappy state of Chinese nuclear propulsion.....

With our level of technical skill, leaping into critical areas is the only way to surpass the US. This is why we can make advanced materials for solar energy, fuel cells and microelectronics, but can't make a 19th century diesel engine.

I am not sure why everyone is so gung-ho about a Nuke carrier. Something like that won't be really useful for China until probably 5-7 years down the line. China's regional concerns still trumps any immediate need for power projection.

To each one his own. If you are referring to Indians plans to acquire 40-50,000T carriers, then its as per Indias requirements. I don't know Chinas requirement for '100,000 tons babies'.
We may be a 2nd class force. But thats good enough when facing 3rd class opponents.
