China’s CSCEC completes major highway in Pakistan in record 36 months

State-owned giant China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) is celebrating the completion of the 392-km Sukkur-Multan motorway in Pakistan, built in what it calls a record-breaking time of three years.
Part of the longer Peshawar-to-Karachi Motorway project, the highway is the largest infrastructure project under the multi-billion-dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative.

Chinese news agency Xinhua reports that 28,900 people worked on the road, more than 90% of them Pakistani nationals.

The highway helps link Multan, a region known for mangoes, hand-embroidered clothing and pottery, to the commercial centre of Karachi, facilitating exports.

Around 3,000 local people were trained in construction during the project.

One, Alamdar Khan, worked as a project coordinator and told Xinhua that he was introduced to techniques he had never heard of before.

“In this project Chinese used drones to monitor the construction, their GPS is remarkable and their testing equipment is one of the best in the world, working with them was a training and a great skill development opportunity for me,” Khan told Xinhua.

The project is now waiting for Pakistan’s National Highway Authority for formal inauguration.

In February this year CSCEC rejected allegations of impropriety made by a Pakistani government minister over the procurement of the project under former prime minister Nawaz Sharif

Well every project China has taken up they have delivered in Record speed

The only project where we had hiccup was where Pakistani labor force came into play

a) They could not run a solar power plant and wanted it sold to private party before they would maintain it

b) Nandi poor power project fiasco , more to do with after completion people did not knew how to run the power plant. It was not clear why the Power Unit for plant had to be changed when it was brand new !!

Our whole labor force needs at least 1-2 years of technical training in order to catch up​

due to massive industrialization chinese public are much better trained to work hard than our public that is why our domestic companies fail to complete project on time

The news reported that 90% of 28,900 people worked on the project were locals. With the skill and experience gained in this project, they will be more experienced and efficient when they work on the next projects. With time and work opportunity, they will improve progressively and become more competent and skilled.

Roads are Good but Pakistan Should Focus on Railways instead of Using Trucks and Smaller Vehicles for long hauls
Trains, Will be Cheaper for People and Gov to maintain.
They will much create more jobs for the country than any other transport system.
Ease of maintenance, will much more weight than many buses or vans.
If Pakistan uses a mix of electric and Diesel engines and more people use the train for city to city or long journeys, It will directly lower the daily usage of Oil for Pakistan, as Pakistan can power these through Hydro projects.
