Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming has said China will not build any military base in Bangladesh or any other foreign land.
He made the remarks when his attention was drawn to a report carried by NIKKEI ASIA titled "India wary of China setting up Bangladesh missile maintenance hub".

With China preparing to set up a maintenance facility in Bangladesh for surface-to-air missile systems it supplied in 2011, alarm bells are ringing in New Delhi, reads the report.

LI Jiming said China is not taking the side of Russia in the war against Ukraine, rather Beijing wants a peaceful resolution to the issue through dialogue.

"Not really," he said when asked whether China is taking the side of Russia and mentioned that both Russia and Ukraine are their friends.

Referring to Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen's statement over the issue the Chinese Ambassador said Bangladesh wants peace and that is what China exactly wants.

The Embassy of China in Bangladesh hosted an in-person press conference titled "Spring Dialogue with China" at Pan Pacific Sonargaon.

Inam Ahmed, Editor of the Business Standard, moderated the event.

The ambassador shared his thoughts on various issues including Bangladesh-China relations, Rohingya crisis, infrastructure, trade and investment, QUAD, Indo-Pacific Strategy and Taiwan situation.

Missile maintenance shop is certainly not equal to a military base. i wish China builds a missile production facility in BD. BAF has to take care of too many IAF planes.

When planes can act offensive, missiles give protection to a country's sky. I believe the country needs more and more defensive missiles.

Absolutely right @bluesky bhai. Air superiority decides outcome of any conflict and that cannot be allowed to prevail.

Missiles are a very economical way to defensively prevent establishment of enemy air-superiority.

BD would gain by having Chinese base while China risk being dragged into defence of BD,the primary threat of BD sovereignty isn't Myanmar but India,Myanmar wouldn't try to install puppet gov or downright annex BD only India has those design. India has no desire to invade BD. India wants a puppet govt there which serves the interest of India.

However, India is no more controlling BD that it can influence election there next time.

It is all because of American sanctions on RAB and certain govt individuals. Next time, no midnight voting and day-time declaration of winning party.

If so happens, India loses its clout on the day of election. So, what India will do to reverse things is a question.

What a strange comment about Myanmar and BD.

Myanmar has zero ability to even take an inch of BD land.

While BAF would get taken out in a couple of weeks by MAF, both the BA and BN are far more powerful than MA.

Just the 18 TRG-300s MLRS that BD has purchased from Turkey would make mincemeat out of any Myanmar invasion attempt at BD. In fact the BD infantry would slaughter the rag-tag MA with their superior training and tactical abilities.
