China Welcomes Saudi Plans to Invest in CPEC Project With Pakistan

No one knows the agreement between Pakistan and China . It is now common feeling , China doesn't want to share this project to anyone.
You're wrong,
In Gwadar, our investment focus is on the port. As for other projects in the whole Gwadar region, we welcome third-party investment.

I doubt China welcome Saudi Arabia. Because If KSA built refinery on Gawadar, that would help KSA to export oil to India and Far East. But, something is not right.

KSA has asked for a guaranteed ~16% ROI, Pakistan can only guarantee it when it is at helms of Marketing & Sales of these products. So, the chances of these exported to India are too slim. India would rather up Saudi's crude import and expand it's refining capabilities than to import Saudi crude refined and marketed by Pakistan. The targeted market for this refinery will be Pakistan and China, and that too through land routes, mainly Gwadar-Kashgar Railway.

This is good news and welcome gesture from China, debunking all the smear campaign and propaganda against CPEC, and what better way to do this than giving an interview to VOA.

Its just a strategic decision by the Saudis. Their goal is to invest in a refinery that is beyond reach of Houthi missiles and mayhem and one that is in a stable and powerful regional country. It's what you call risk aversion and farming out production for safety. It also gives Pakistan an incentive to be involved in KSA's security.

"In the next five years, we should further encourage other countries to participate, in terms of bringing financing, construction and equipment to CPEC projects," he added.
China's stand on CPEC is very consistent.

It is off limit Persian Gulf. A refinery in the open sea on deep water sea port and natural access for the tankers.

China started the CPEC in 1960....may be news for you guys.

Right now KSA left with only signing the MOU and no official joint statement about this project. Only they say, KSA top official will be back in near future with better plan for this project.

It started the moment Pakistan and China became friends , in the 1950s? Initially it was a defense link and slowly became a trade link with a very limited scope. Bhutto gave it a stimulus as he wanted it improved for defense and trade to help Pakistan improve economically. Then the Chinese gave it the strategic nod and depth and China and Pakistan came up with scheme of what it is today.

We need investment in the China - Pak rail link across the Karakorum range. CPEC is meaningless without it. The rail link will allow Pakistan to colossally trade with central Asia, Russia and China. The trade benefit for Pakistan would run into a Trillion dollars within a decade. Huge benefit for India too if it can discard the war rhetoric , stand down its soldiers and give Kashmiris freedom and trade peace for the great trade of the 21st Century.

That would be an engineering miracle, running over the Pamir Mountains. We can make that happen since we built railways all across Tibet more than a decade ago, but still, it's a tremendous engineering challenge and the security issues along the railway should also be taken into the account.

Check out this Japanese documentary video shot in 1980 at 18:15 to see how Pakistanis came to China thru the Karakoram highway and did business in China, have to say that Pakistan was much richer than China back then. Those caravans are very impressive and people are so well dressed comparing to the Chinese.

Only China has the ability, skills and experience to make it happen. It will be the golden wonder of the world if it does happen, perhaps the greatest engineering feat in human history.

I would love to see the KTL linked up to the China -Europe train link, stretching from Kashi to Beijing and Moscow and Paris and London.

There was a report earlier.

https://www.dawn.com/news/1436246

It cites Pakistan promising 16% ROI, and that was before the signing of the MOU. The later reports do not mention this, and this might have been lowered or even increased. I quoted it to serve as a reference on why the refined products won't be exported to India.

Not just that but China love challenges and achieve them that's the main thing.
