A lot many Indians here who have just recently discovered the internet are of the sad belief that DRDO is a leading defense research agency whose weapons and platform systems are world-class and envied by India's neighbours. They are of the opinion that while DRDO (and related PSUs) produce the world's best technology the corrupt Indian military officers in their greed for foreign maal and kick backs reject DRDO designed products and go for imports.

Here is to bring forward a reality check for all the DRDO troll bots on exactly how frar DRDO lags behind in defence issues.

1. While DRDO is still struggling to come up with a working model of Tejas the Chinese are test-flyinjg their own 5th gen fighter the J-20. Tejas is a 3rd gen mig-21 replacement and is of the same class as a retro-fitted mig-21. So even in the best of days a perfect tejas will be outclassed by the the perfect J-20.

And the Chinese don't stop there. The Chinese are already in process of building the world's fastest aircraft.

This should highlight the Gulf between Indian and chinese domestic production.

2. Indian ICBMs top at 5,500 km while Chinese have a range of over 12,500 km.

The Chinese military rockets are famous for their payloads. While Pinaka currently has a stated range of 45 km the Chinese have rockets with ranges of 100 km (in service with pakistan and has 10 barrels), 200 km (in service with turkey and has 4 barrels) and allegedly is developing or has developed rockets with ranges of 400 km.

In contrast Indian rockets peak out at 150 km flat.

India also does not have anything of comparison to chinese carrier killer missile DF-21D

And lest we forget, the chinese have anti-satellite weapons which DRDO so far has failed to build.

3. Coming to Navy, the chinese have operational fleet of SSN and SSBN. Again this is something which India lacks.

Both India and China are countries of similar population and shared date of independence. So why is India lagging behind? Why is every weapon system coming out from the stables of DRDO a laughing stock in front of the world?

INSAS, Arjun, LCA are all abject failures despite spending billions of dollars and being decades into making. In Kargil war if it was not for the foreign maal supplied by Israel then India could have well lost the war and Ladakh with it. Not a single elite army formation uses INSAS. From SPG groups deployed to protect ministers, to elite commandos and police crack teams all use foreign made rifles.

The Chinese have no love for India and in a case of conflict while china will rely on domestic suppliers India will have to seek Israeli help because DRDO like always will come up with nothing. If India has to take the initiative and catch up to China then India needs to abolish PSUs and give power to the private sector.

R & D require financial resources. The rich countries of the world can afford to invest huge amounts of money in the fields of R & D. When advance technologies are developed then the same ones can be used for military or non military applications.
