China to declare special financial support of Rs 4 Billion to Nepal

Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao while being in Kathmandu will declare a onetime special financial support to Nepal that is to the tune of Rs 4 Billion. He will also pledge to increase annual financial support that is currently Rs 1.5 Billion only, reports Nagarik National Daily, December 10, 2011.
Including eleven senior ministers, Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao will be leading a one hundred and one member delegation to Nepal for a three day state visit beginning December 19, 2011.
The issues that will be primarily dealt with during Premier Wen’s Nepal visit according to the daily also includes minimizing Nepal’s trade deficit with China, sign agreements on construction of 750 MW West Seti Hydro-Power Project and construction of four highways connecting northern part of the country to the south (Kimathanka-Biratnagar, Hilsa-Simikot, Homsom-Koral and , Syafrubesi-Rasuwagadhi-Kerung).
Other issues that will be high on the agenda are the construction of Regional International Airport in Pokhara, construction of special economic zone (SEZ) in Panchkhal of Kavre District and construction of dry ports at four custom points along Nepal-China border.
The government in Nepal has already acquired 1,000 ropanis of community forest land for the special economic zone at Panchkhal.
It is reported that the proposal for construction of dry ports is the idea of the Chinese government itself.
“China has proposed dry ports on Yari-Pulam, Rasuwa-Jilong, development of Kodari- Zangmu as international ports and Olangchung Gola- Riwu as a bilateral port”, writes the daily.
