China temporarily bans Wildlife trade

. .
Seriously if you can ban shark fin soup you can ban ton of disgusting dishes anyways

Yeah. Maybe one silver lining out of all this is that China's government bans the wildlife trade permanently and upgrades sanitation standards at local provincial wet markets. They just need to send experts to Japan and see what world class sanitation standards should be.

Secondly, I hope this pandemic turns Chinese society completely hostile to the gross motherfuckers who continue to eat disgusting shit and eat all kinds of wildlife for their own enjoyment and curiosity. These people need to be socially ostracized and shamed.

This is def bigger than SARS thankfully we are no where close to Chernobyl levels yet in terms of the crisis but I know this would be large spot and perhaps may change societal mores towards certain foods

The majority of Chinese already do not consume strange and exotic animals. The majority do not consume things like dog meat and cat meat, contrary to global perceptions.

However, there has been too much passive tolerance of the small minority who does. Now that this is the cause of a pandemic that is seriously harming society as a whole, hopefully the silent majority will harshly persecute the small minority who continues to endanger the world at large with their disgusting and selfish habits.

The Ebola strains crossed over into humans in Africa due to some people eating, monkeys and other wild animals.

This has to be stopped asap, as lives are at stake. Our modern world is not designed to handle such outbreaks, you only have to see where this thing ended up just days after the first announcement.

There are enough farmed animals to eat ( on that front, they need to STOP the use of antibotics in farming as they is making bacteria resistant to antibotics now... SIGH.. SIGH ... ).

Humans!! Honestly..

Dog meat is mostly a Korean dish and in Heliojiang it just became a tied to Chinese during the 20th century when they were famines and the civil war made dog the only meat available but in ROK they actually banned Dog meat and its consumption was in decline as well prior

You are right that in Northern China, dog meat is primarily only eaten by ethnic Koreans. However in the South, there are some sub-cultures in Guangdong/Guangxi who eat dog, hence the disgusting Yulin festival, which I hear is disappearing, which is good.

Wet markets and the consumption of wildlife is a major threat to the health of the whole world but primarily to the developing world, especially in Africa and Asia, where they exist en masse. These markets should be heavily regulated or banned to promote public health.

I can't understand the mentality of people who eat strange animals. Must be some kind of selfish thrill eating a weird animal. I hate these people.

If there is one thing I like the Iranians and Turks they got bazzars that almost touristy yet cultural but the govts keep clean sort off so excuses oh its about culture etc bs can shut up I am not really fan of open air markets I like fresh produce but whenever I was in Pakistan in the early 2000s on family trips and saw meat dangling with bugs made me feel very uncomfortble I am guessing same in China in third tier cities but Wuhan is first tier real bad

Eating of exotic animals need to be banned.

On a side note a story.

In 80s when my father was in army, his unit had a chinese officer as assault swimming instructor on deputation.

He was allowed separate housing with attached kitchen.

A few times the soldiers in the unit did not feel like going for a swim, they would then "gift" a turtle/tortoise. The chinese officer would then grant them leave and be busy with cooking the gift for rest of the day.

PLA of that time was different and quite rigid (don't know about nowadays).

He interacted with them while deployed at KKH, the regimental center and a few other places. He had some fun stories but I don't want to stereotype.

However, what I can say is that they have helped us develop the base/foundation of many of our strategic orgs (apart from help in PAC/HIT e.t.c) and still help us in many forms that any other country would never do (strategically).

I would regret the day our interests diverge because they know of many of our key capabilities inside and out.
