At the heart of the dispute is a road being built by China in Dokalam, where it has a territorial dispute with Bhutan.

With the border dispute at Sikkim extending beyond a month, China last week told foreign diplomats in Beijing that its "patience with India won't be indefinite". Sharing details of this, diplomat sources who asked not to be named said that India has been briefing foreign embassies in Delhi on the border stand-off upon their request. The Foreign Ministry has repeated at these briefings what it has said on record - that diplomatic contacts are also being used to help defuse the tension.

Though the government has told foreign diplomats there is no cause for alarm, sources admit that the confrontation at Sikkim is causing concern in capitals around the world.

China's version of the dispute is that India has "illegally transgressed" the border at Sikkim to stop a road from being built on a plateau in what it calls the Donglang region. India agrees with Bhutan's claim that the land belongs not to China, but to the small Himalayan kingdom. Before the confrontation escalated, India had also warned China that the road in what Bhutan and India call Dokalam was "a serious security concern" because it gives China access to the "Chicken's Neck" , a narrow wedge of land, 23 kms at its widest, which links the seven northeastern states to the rest of India.

Indian soldiers reportedly stopped the Chinese road's construction early in June. Beijing's rhetoric has been fierce and repeated, with warnings from government spokespersons and state-run media of "more serious consequences" for India and references to the 1962 war fought over Arunachal Pradesh which had punishing results for Delhi.

Amid the stand-off with India, Chinese President Xi Jinping met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Germany. Beijing aggressively stated there was no bilateral or formal meeting; India pointed out none had been sought and that the informal talks covered "a range of issues".

National Security Adviser Ajit Doval has not changed his plans to travel to China later this month for a meeting hosted by his counterpart of top security officers of the bloc of BRICS - Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Mr Doval is expected to raise the Sikkim stand-off on his trip.

When Chinese patience runs out, they will be like...'enough is enough...you guys don't move after so many warnings...that's cheating...we won't play.....going home...bye'!

Meanwhile we are running out of patience with extremely silly Chini warnings, we have our responsibilities towards our friendly smaller neighbours, even our opposition parties are standing firm behind the government on this....we ain't moving dude. Do whatever..

Kabhi kabhi to taras aa jata he in chinese pe ... somtime i feel pity about dese chinese they are in trap cant fight cant withdraw ..
Chinese try to play it good by not responding harshly yet they make good progress economically technologically and politically
so they don't wont to lose their prestige in a war with India even if they going to win it

They want their image to stay intact

But they may run out of patience if India corner them by not solving the problem diplomatically

At the other hand unfortunately I see the Indian eger to go to war with China

Its wrong especially for India a war with China or Any other nation will cost them big amount of money they need every cent or rupe of them.

If anyone think its going to be full scale war well sorry for disappointing you .. its gonna be a skirmish at doka la .. and looking at the location , Supply route , Army unit it will be fully in favour of India to go for war den retreat . Diplomatic solution is a way but it will cost china its image ... specially in heart of cheerleaders ..

We are the one open for diplomacy as a responsible nation, China is giving a precondition of removing our troops first....NOW THAT WON'T HAPPEN.

Im not Chinese so all I'm going to do is sit and watch innocent soldiers kill each other for no reason except someone for fake pride. Instead fix it and let those poor soldiers go home.

We are not the one looking for war, it's China who is breaking the status quo repeatedly. However, 'not looking for war' doesn't mean that anybody can walk over us, that we won't allow.

You know what I'm thinking if both countries cooperate in business instead of rivalry you both can lead Asia and the world economically you both have lots of potencial lots of grow in all directions while this stand can destroy all that

in Asia we have all the recipes to lead the world in all fields trust me I believe in that

China India Japan Indonesia S.korea Pakistan Thailand all these countries can tomorrow change the world!!!

But we need leaders with better views not hot headed look at the West and how they achieved when they worked together after the crises of WWII.
