Wading into a foreign policy issue for the first time, Narendra Modi on Saturday asked China to shed its “expansionist mindset”, making it clear that no power on earth can snatch Arunachal Pradesh from India.

“China should shed its expansionist policy and forge bilateral ties with India for peace, progress and prosperity of both the nations,” the BJP prime ministerial candidate said addressing a meeting in Pasighat in his current election campaign.

“Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India and will always remain so. No power can snatch it from us. People of Arunachal Pradesh didn’t come under pressure or fear of China,” he said.

“I swear in the name of this soil that I will never allow the state to disappear...breakdown and to bow down,” Mr. Modi said to a thunderous applause from people gathered near the mighty Siang River.

He said China should shed its expansionist mindset because the world of today does not accept it. The entire world is moving towards development, he said.

“China needs to change its stand. China should shed its expansionist mindset and adopt the plank of development. Focus is on the development all over the world,” the Gujarat Chief Minister said.

Lauding the patriotic nature of the people, Mr. Modi said that because of the people, who were guarding the state as well as the country as sentinels, Arunachal remained an integral part of the country.

“The people here are real patriots as they salute their counterparts with ‘Jai Hind’ and are zealously protecting the state’s territory..... They gave a befitting reply to the advancing Chinese army during 1962 and the British and several army personnel from the state also fought with Pakistan during the Kargil war,” he said.

While directly referring to the January 29 murder of Arunachal Pradesh youth Nido Tania in Delhi, Mr. Modi cautioned the UPA government against underestimating the people of the state and added that it was the duty of the entire nation to protect the people and the state’s territorial integrity.

Elaborating on BJP’s mantra for development of the Northeast, Modi pitched for the ‘3H’ model of growth for Arunachal Pradesh. “H -- Herbal, Horticulture and Handicrafts.

These 3Hs can give lot of opportunities to the people here,” Mr. Modi said.

“Arunachal can be the world environment capital. It is no less than Switzerland,” he said.

Making a scathing attack on Congress governments both at the Centre as well as in the state for their failure in meeting the aspirations of the people, he said, “Neither dynasty nor casteism will benefit the country. Country will be benefited from development and 2014 elections will be fought on the development plank.”

He also said that Congress government at the Centre does not listen to its own government in Arunacahal Pradesh.

Referring to the killing of Tania, Mr. Modi said, “You need a government which is sensitive to the problems of every part of the country. The state does not have any opportunity in education or employment to offer the youth.”

“There were special provisions in the budget for the development of northeast and Sikkim during A.B. Vajpayeeji’s time,” he said, adding “lotus will again bloom in the region.”

Making an attempt to bond with the state, he said, “I come from Gujarat, a land that has very old and close relations with Arunachal Pradesh. The relation between Gujarat and Arunachal Pradesh brings the eastern and western part of our country together.”

He also said that the “first rays of the Sun bless this land. Arunachal Pradesh wakes up first and then the rest of India rises. The final rays of the sun set in Gujarat and tell us, we

Expansionist?

We haven't had any bloodshed on any of our borders for over 30 years.

Meanwhile, India has regular bloodshed on their border with Pakistan, and their border with Bangladesh.

In fact, just a short while back on India's borders some soldiers had their heads cut off, and their bodies cut to pieces. Not to mention soldiers regularly being shot, border security personnel, and even cattle traders and other civilians. They seem to shoot at anything that moves, soldiers or civilians alike.

Last but not least, China is ranked FAR above India on the Global Peace Index:

Our diplomatic spats are just that... diplomatic. We aren't cutting heads off soldiers and mutilating their corpses, we aren't shooting cattle traders or civilians like the BSF does.

Maybe we are not handling things correctly, I would like to know how China would react under these two different circumstances: :-)

1. Millions of Indians start crossing over the border of China illegally and start settling deep inside every major city of China, start creating slums, start to take away small jobs and put extreme pressure on its economy & resources? Add to that, what if the illegal Indians look & speak like Chinese and can't be distinguished easily once they are inside China? Also add to that thousands of Indians involved in smuggling of cattle & goods including contraband & weapons, and involving in petty crimes inside China, and there is no action from Govt. of India to prevent that.

How would China handle such a situation?

2. What if India was created after a partition of China and there is a highly contested piece of land in their border, India has launched multiple full-fledged wars and limited wars, almost all unprovoked except one. India is also majorly supporting insurgency and terrorist activities inside China, India is also giving shelters and providing training camps and weapons to terrorists from both inside & outside India, India is involved in several bomb attacks inside major Chinese cities, its capital, and economic hubs like Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Guangzhou, etc. India has also sent trained terrorists with deadly weapons to attack China's Parliament and other major centers, and to kill innocent civilians indiscriminately.
On the border regular exchange of fire & shelling is a regular affair, India is also involved in beheading Chinese soldiers; such is the hatred, and each & every peace effort initiated by China has been sabotaged by Indian army & RAW by fresh acts of violence.

How would China handle such a situation?

So many hypothetical situations.

The point is, India should handle its border issues how it sees fit, and we should do the same.

The fact that we have had no cross border bloodshed for 30 years, the fact that we've been actively trying to reduce our population growth, and the fact that we're constantly reducing our "defence spending as a percentage of GDP", points to us not being expansionist.

Deng Xiaoping's reforms cut the PLA by millions of soldiers. What expansionist country actively tries to reduce its population, reduces its military spending as a percentage of GDP, and cuts millions of soldiers from its military?

All our recent disputes were solved by diplomacy. Hong Kong was returned by diplomacy, and our land dispute with Tajikistan was solved by an exchange of territory.

We are the ones benefiting the most from the global status quo, by FAR. No other country in the world is increasing in relative strength as fast as we are.

Why would we want to rock the boat? If anything, it's the established great powers who are unhappy with the decline of their relative power, and who would benefit from altering the global status quo.

The USA for instance launched three separate invasions against three different countries, in the past decade ALONE.

since when bloodshed = expansionism??
what does Global Peace Index got to do with claiming territories ?

when we say China is expansionist, reply by proving that China doesn't try to gobble other countries territories..
Please don't fill space with unrelated trash

Use your brain.

Expansionism by definition implies a lack of peace.

Yet China is ranked FAR higher than India on the Global Peace Index.

Not to mention it was India that tried to take our territory with the Forward Policy.

We were the ones who offered a peaceful swap offer in 1960:

India has been reluctant to part with any portion of the disputed territory since the 1950s.

It rejected a swap offer made by China's former Prime Minister Zhou Enlai in 1960, asking India to recognise China's control of Aksai Chin in the west as a quid pro quo for China's recognition of the McMahon line.

After rejecting that offer, India initiated a "forward policy" to control the disputed territories in the Himalayas.

We offered a peaceful swap offer, India responded with the military option of the Forward Policy. Which was the trigger for the Sino-Indian War.

This Indian like mumbling while constipating in toilette, dare to said that out loud as man on the table face to face with China's leaders .

Must be the first time I have to disagree to what you said...you and me were not even born when the forward policy happened...so I am not going to talk about it.
But lets get some recent reports

And frankly the historically competitive relationship between Russia and China have puzzled many analysts who now see the booming ties between China and Russia as ominous ...
Ofcourse I know you're aware of what I have mentioned here....I am expecting you to dispel it.
