BEIJING: Defending its move to block India's entry into the Nuclear Suppliers Group, China has claimed that several members of the 48-nation block shared its view that signing of the NPT was an "important" standard for the NSG's expansion.

The US is the main supporter of India to make New Delhi member of the NSG while opposing Pakistan’s entry into the group in order to stop Pakistan’s from access to modern nuclear technology.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said that not only China but also a lot of other NSG members are of the view that Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) is the cornerstone for safeguarding the international nuclear non-proliferation regime.

Lu said the NSG is an important part of NPT, which has been the consensus of the international community for long. Although India is not part of the NSG, Indian side recognises this consensus, he claimed.

"All the multilateral non-proliferation export control regime including the NSG has regarded NPT as an important standard for the expansion of the NSG," he said.

Avoiding any references to Pakistan, Lu said "Apart from India, lot of other countries expressed their willingness to join. Then it raised the question to the international community - Shall the non-NPT members also become part of the NSG?" he said.

"The international community believes that there should be a side discussion in the NSG on this issue and decision should be made in accordance with relevant rules. China's position is not directed against any specific country but applies to all the non-NPT members," he said.

India, Pakistan, Israel and South Sudan were among four UN member states which have not signed the NPT, the international pact aimed at preventing the spread of nuclear weapons.

India should test its nuclear weapons and make sure we are on par with other giants then think about NPT.

What about the consequences? Hyde Act in the 123 agreement clearly states that the USA will end the nuclear waiver with India in such event. Aurstralia, India's biggest and most important uranium supplier and Canada are among the front runners of CTBT and will boycott India.
Japan had already refused a civil nuclear deal with India and will probably come up with economic sanctions.

Sanctions may come from EU aswell.

Those sanctions will not do any harm, security is utmost importance.

Really? India will become an international pariah once again with heavy economic sanctions from all over the world. Say good bye to 'make in India' hype as many defence deals will meet the same fate as the LCA.

Not only the economy will suffer, the security too will be compromised by cancelled defence deals.

NSG has more of a Political Meaning than a Practical Utility for Nuclear Trade, which India is Already Doing with Several Nations Including US , Russia , France , Australia , Japan , Canada.

Those opposing are fearing the "status elevation" of India, rather the technology , to which we already have the access.

"Make in India" coincides with the cheap manufacturing advantages of the MNC's, plus India's rise will help the world economy.

Afaik, Japan has no nuclear deal with India. Please correct me if I am wrong.
