China said on Friday it had received no compensation from Vietnam for losses inflicted by anti-Chinese riots in Vietnam last month, demanding that Hanoi pay up and punish assailants responsible for the widespread damage.

A flare-up in strained ties over disputed sovereignty in the South China Sea sparked last month's protests after China towed an oil rig to an area claimed by both sides. The issue triggered a rampage of arson, destruction and looting of Chinese-owned factories and businesses mistaken for being Chinese.

At least four people died.

China has repeatedly pressed Vietnam to compensate its citizens and companies.

"As of today, Vietnam has not provided any compensation at all," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei told a daily news briefing.

"We demand that Vietnam take earnest steps to guarantee the safety of Chinese bodies and personnel in Vietnam, severely punish the assailants who created the disturbances and fully compensate the losses of Chinese companies and individuals."

Fighting between Vietnamese and Chinese workers broke out in central Ha Tinh province, killing at least four people and wounding at least 100. About 4,000 Chinese workers subsequently left Vietnam.

Chinese state energy firm CNOOC deployed dozens of ships in towing the $1 billion oil rig to a spot 240 km (150 miles) off Vietnam's coast. Vietnam and China traded accusations last week over the sinking of a Vietnamese fishing boat not far from where the oil rig was parked.

China claims about 90 percent of the South China Sea, displaying its reach on official maps with a so-called nine-dash line that stretches deep into the maritime heart of Southeast Asia. The Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan also have claims to parts of the potentially energy-rich waters.

Philippine President Benigno Aquino accused China on Thursday of pursuing an "expansion agenda". He said Manila had evidence that Chinese ships were circling two disputed reefs, weeks after Manila accused China of reclaiming land in another part of the South China Sea.

Hong dismissed the president's comments and restated China's position that it had "irrefutable sovereignty" over the Spratly Islands, one of the disputed groups of largely uninhabited islands in the South China Seas, and neighboring waters.

"Anything China does on any of these islands is within the scope of China's sovereignty and has nothing to do with the Philippines," he said.

. . . .
What they can do except pinned a panda doll? :pop:

Maybe China should be the better person and forgive, and encourage dialogue instead of abrasiveness.

So much more countries in Asia would come to court China as a brotherly friend if they were more like that.

For example, China's relationship with Pakistan; its admirable and should be emulated. If China were to follow the same policy with its neighbors in south east asia and east asia...

I will not be surprised if one day Pakistan blinks and the Chinese grab some of Pakistan's territory.

We were ally up till 1974 when they robbed our Paracel Islands.....that's 5 years before we switched camp ...

Well, Japan can do a bit of soul searching itself. Since its has hostile relations with China, South Korea, North Korea and with Russia there isn't even a peace treaty after 69 years. So you can ask yourself why Japan is so unpopular in its own region. If Japan were to change its attitude towards other countries and towards its past it can court a lot more friends in the region too. If you think we Chinese hate you. You should hear the Koreans.

Japanese woo forgiveness from Russia. Nicholas II (1868 – 1918) was assassinated in Japan, in order to get forgiveness, a Japanese women committed suicide. I can't do this kinda sh!t to win friend. Will you?

Let's keep this thread about China and Vietnam.

Hate is such a strong word, i don't have the stomach for such a word. Let's use the word "malcontented", or "unassuaged".

Um, that's not only historically false, but outright fantasized. Nicholas II was the last Czar of the Romanov Dynasty, and he, along with the entire Russian Imperial Family, was executed by the Bolsheviks.

He was not assassinated in Japan.

Pakistan settled it's territorial disputes with China in 60's. Hence there is not a single instance of aggression with China since then

buit china is crying now for it, it is stranger people. :omghaha:

Of course our government paid for the loss, at least you know, some of the business damaged are in the form of franchise or J.V, which means some Chinese businessmen also suffer a certain mount of loss. Chinese law is somewhat pro FDI, although China no longer rely on FDI so much.
