Since the time the standoff between Indian and Chinese forces at Ladakh began in May, Beijing’s state-run media has frequently publicised the country’s military prowess.

The Global Times newspaper has been a key platform used for this purpose, with multiple reports in May and June describing new weapons and exercises by the People’s Liberation Army in “high-altitude” regions and “plateaus”.

There were a number of reports referring to deployment of new 155mm artillery systems, rocket launchers and attack and transport helicopters for ‘high-altitude’ regions, sending a not-so-subtle message to India.

While India and China have maintained that they are continuing to negotiate on ending the standoff at Ladakh, progress has been patchy. And Global Times appears to have resumed its ‘muscle’, or rather ‘missile’ flexing.

On Tuesday, Global Times reported that a “new 122-millimeter calibre wheeled howitzer and the vehicle-mounted version of the HJ-10 anti-tank missile system” made their first appearance in recent drills in a “in a high-elevation region in the Himalayas”.

“Compared with their heavier counterparts, these two new weapons are characterised by high mobility,” the Global Times quoted experts as saying.

“The new howitzer, the designation of which is not revealed in the report, looks very similar to and uses similar technologies as the PCL-181 155-millimeter calibre wheeled howitzer, which made its public debut at China’s National Day military parade in 2019. However, this version has a shorter barrel and four wheels instead of the PCL-181’s six wheels…,” The Global Times reported.

. . . .
And India believes its army can beat these forces even though they conduct virtually no live fire exercises because they only have 10 days worth of ammunition? Unbelievable ...

the only question then remains, why isn’t China just bulldozing through india and Ladakh already?
Apparently all the pieces are there, and they have the backing of the pdf community...what’s left? It’s obvious China will be the winner as you’ve rightly predicted

Massive Chinese investment in India and bilateral trade, international condemnation and likely sanctions, and the prospect of India completely allying with the US are all keeping China from attacking.

Well if all those were deterrents to begin with, why go on the offensive in the first place?
Not like those conditions didn’t exist before the Galwan clash.
International condemnation on the COvID virus is already happening viz a viz China
US is already in the anti-China camp, and the galwan incident just pushed India into the quad.
So what’s left now? The Chinese should be attacking already. All conditions have been met.

Be grateful they are level-headed still - neighborly is more appropriate.

China already got what it wanted.

And what was that? A guaranteed enemy at China's doorstep, One that would now find every avenue to hurt China?
One that was previously a reluctant partner to join the quad, but now a willing member to join any alliance with your enemies?

I suppose some would call that a win.

Right.
But that doesn't explain why a level headed neighbor would even make aggressive postures into their neighbors territory, but then stop now. Why stop now? Apparently India is weak and can be run over. So shoudlnt this be the perfect time to strike?
Why wasn't this neighborly attribute at display before Galwan began?

Oh please... India was doing whatever it can to hurt China even before this incident. China moved the LAC south to its claim line and that is what it wanted.

Salami slicing is working just fine for PLA, without even wasting a bullet! Some odd spiked base ball bats here and there are doing the trick as well.

Please provide the evidence of this apparent instigation.
What was this aggressive stance India took that made poor China “react”.
Please don’t mask your blatant act of aggression as some sort of reaction. It wasn’t.
Whatever happened is a chain of events started by China, due to its aggressive posturing. This much is clear
