China reports fewer coronavirus cases outside epicenter, cases surge in South Korea
WORLD NEWS
FEBRUARY 23, 2020 / 11:50 AM / UPDATED 20 MINUTES AGO

SHANGHAI/SEOUL (Reuters) - China reported another fall in the new coronavirus infections outside of its epicenter on Sunday, but world health officials warned it was too early to make predictions about the outbreak as new infections and fears of contagion increased elsewhere.

China’s health commission confirmed 648 new infections on Sunday - higher than a day earlier - but only 18 were outside of Hubei province, the lowest number outside of the epicenter since authorities started publishing data a month ago.

But new infections outside of China continued to worry world health authorities, with South Korea on Sunday reporting a fourth death due to the virus and 123 new cases, bringing its total to 556, having doubled from Friday to Saturday.

Cases in Italy, Europe’s worst hit country, more than quadrupled to 79 on Saturday, with two deaths. Ten new cases in Iran took the total to 29 there, and six deaths, deepening unease at home and in neighboring countries in the Gulf.

The World Health Organization said it was channeling efforts into helping to prepare vulnerable countries, including 13 in Africa. It expressed concern on Saturday about the number of new infections that had no clear link to China, such as travel history or contact with a confirmed case.

More than half the new cases in South Korea were linked to a Shincheonji Church of Jesus congregation in Daegu, after a woman known as “Patient 31” who attended services tested positive for the virus last week. The woman had no recent record of overseas travel.

The disease has spread to some 26 countries and territories outside China, killing more than a dozen people, according to a Reuters tally. The virus has been fatal in 2% of reported cases, with a risk of death higher for older patients, and relatively few cases among children, according to the WHO.

The potential economic impact of the outbreak overshadowed a meeting of G20 finance ministers in Saudi Arabia, at which the International Monetary Fund chief said the disruption caused by the coronavirus would likely lower China’s economic growth this year to 5.6%, down 0.4 percentage points from its January outlook, and shave 0.1 percentage points from global growth.

Sorry but I don’t trust any number coming out of China. They are all just propaganda numbers.

First they hid the virus for a month and now we are supposed to believe the numbers from the same people?

GTFO

Propaganda is always played by many government, not excluding western ones.

Only 200 deaths we're reported yesterday in China and that's the number given by gov imagine the actual figure :/
It's going crazy now the whole world is affected

.
Hundreds of government officials lost their jobs including governer of Hubei province and Wuhan mayor, criticism of the government rages all across the Chinese social media, the central government then issued a stark warning to all local government officials, whoever try to cover up and hide the information and statistics of the virus will be swiftly punished the harshest possible ways.

The government can not control the social media, that's why so much rumors spreading around even in China, Beijing's new cases now are zero, if one confirmed case arises, the social media will put the number 10 from "various" sources.

Most new cases outside Hubei province just happened in several prisons, the chief jailors of those prisons were quickly removed, every single new case outside Hubei province was very detailedly reported including the neighborhoods that the reported patient frequented, phone apps can tell you how far you are from the nearest locations where viru infections were confirmed, most provinces and cities outside Hubei province all have zero growth in new cases. the virus crisis can be over outside Hubei in China in a couple of weeks.

Spot on mate. Anyone reporting real numbers is censored in China.

We just don’t know the real numbers.

Outside Hubei province only 18 new cases and most Chinese provinces and cities registered zero new cases. A month long quarantine in China worked.

If China wanted to lie, China didn't have to wait for a whole month till today.

With new cases become zero in most Chinese provinces and cities, many people finished their month long quarantine and came out of their houses to enjoy outdoor in recent days..

Four Chinese provinces lower coronavirus emergency response level

BEIJING (Reuters) - Four Chinese provinces Yunnan, Guangdong, Shanxi and Guizhou on Monday lowered their coronavirus emergency response measures, local health commissions said.

Yunnan and Guizhou cut their emergency response measures from level I to level III, while Guangdong and Shanxi lowered their measures to level II.

China has a four-tier response system for pubic health emergencies that determines what measures it will implement, with level I the most serious.

Gansu province was the first to lower its measures on Friday, followed by Liaoning on Saturday.

True, all his posts are repetitive and predictable. It is really funny many of the China haters on PDF always talk about 'China's lack of originality' and 'CCP dishonesty'. Yet can't even come up with new arguments or provide evidence to support their claim.

The problem is western media is more interested in clicks than reporting news. They recently reported that Bill Gates had ordered a hydrogen-powered superyacht.

They want to maximise profitability but the result is credibility suffers.
