China reacts cautiously to India's strike corps proposal

China has reacted cautiously to India's proposal for the establishment of mountain strike corps along the Sino-Indian border, while the official media here ignored the development.

"The Chinese and Indian governments have signed several agreements on safeguarding peace and tranquillity in the border areas and on taking trust-building measures in the field of military", Chinese Foreign Ministry, said on China's reaction to the Indian move.

"The overall situation in the border areas between the two countries is peaceful and stable. The Chinese side is ready to work with the Indian side to maintain peace and tranquillity on the border areas", the brief response said, without making any direct reference to the Indian government's clearance to form the division.

Boosting the Indian Army's war fighting capabilities along the Line of Actual Control, government on Wednesday gave the go-ahead for the creation of a corps including deployment of 50,000 additional troops along the China border at a cost of around Rs 65,000 crore.

The move to form the Mountain Corps has not figured in the official media here so far.

The approval for the formation of the new corps comes as the two countries held advanced negotiations on the Border Defence Cooperation Agreement (BDCA) which figured prominently in Defence Minister A K Antony's visit here earlier this month.

It was also discussed during National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon's visit on June 28 when he held the 16th round of talks to resolve the border issue with his counterpart Yang Jiechi.

Indian officials here earlier refuted perception that the BDCA which was proposed by China was aimed at containing the development of infrastructure on the Indian side of the border or freezing the troop levels.

Cant agree more, instead of blabbing about this the Indian government should have kept their mouth shut.! 65000 crores is a little thing!! we have seen lakhs n lakhs of crores disappear like a fart in the thin air.....
Sometimes i really appreciate the dedication of Chinese politicians to their country!! Sometimes i really wish Jayaprakash Narayan was still alive!!

I was a witness of it. since then every year two to three bns are ascending for upper reaches from foothills and new ones are taking their place. they are converting the regular bns. into mountain corp till the new one gets formed. the vacuum because of this exercise will be filled now and it is also an official stand now. india had strong reasons to believe then that china will escalate tension in border, increase it and will wage war against india by 2015. i was a part of one of those discussion between top army cmdrs. see how their assessment was correct. I dont have to be in the army to be a part of such discussion. this news is not a top secret information or even classified that it cannot be discussed between sister agencies and civil administration, if you know how the forces work on ground and what it requires to move a force.( hell, even a ration supplier, vehicle contractor and munshi of local police station knows what is going on ) so it does not amount to boasting if i had claimed that being a part of thing. and for your information I was present at each and every such officers farewell party in a north eastern place in 2009.
PS- no body knows the standard of a IDF officer better than me. so take it or leave it but dont react idiotically and get lost.
