NEW DELHI: The government for the first time on Sunday said that the Maoists are getting arms from China, which is a "big supplier" of small
weapons. ( Watch Video )

"Chinese are big smugglers... suppliers of small arms. I am sure that the Maoists also get them," home secretary G K Pillai said when asked if the Naxals were having links with China.

The home secretary said the government has no information that the Maoists have any links with China except getting arms. "I do not think so, except getting arms," he told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.

Pillai, however, did not elaborate whether the Maoists were getting arms from Chinese arms smugglers or official agencies.

Home minister P Chidambaram had said in an interview last month that the Maoists are acquiring weapons through Bangladesh, Myanmar and possibly Nepal.

"We know now that the weapons are coming through Bangladesh and Myanmar and possibly Nepal. The border is very porous. The Indo-Nepal border is a very porous border." he had said.

Though chines seems to be source of arms through neighbouring countries but I am at loss to understand
Why TOI haters cannot abstain from quoting TOI. For them TOI is trash anyway.

If China is provinding arms to Moists what is the route of supply what is mode of payment for these arms and who are involved as middle men ?????

My view? I don't think the Chinese government is actively supporting the rebels. Although, they turn a blind eye towards weapon smugglers because it is a lucrative trade.

Chinese weapons are used all the way from South America to Africa to Afghanistan, so not surprising that they are being used in India as well.

I'm sure the Chinese government can put a stop to this if they want to.

I am bewildered. Don't know what to say. China doesn't have policy like this. I believe that their weapons are being used and China is not involved in it it self.

I guess if u read the article clearly it talk abt weapons being smuggled so i guess its the Black market or the Chinese mafia involved and doubt China's involvement

I'd be interested in knowing what particular type/models of Chinese arms Maoists are using, because I have never seen news reports about large numbers of Chinese weapons seized from Maoists.

Maybe GoI is bluffing this to pressurize China for some reason. Did you notice that '..smugglers...eh..suppliers' glitch deliberately left there.

The route is the nathula pass & several unguarded points along the sikkim-china border. also there is a far more easier route.......it goes like this arms is smuggled into nepal with tacit suppot from the nepalese maoist government, who in turn sell them to maoist sympathizers along the porous india-nepal border

as far as middle-men is concerned indian communists are believed to be involved as is insurgent groups in the north-east

Well by China the GoI is not referring to the Chinese Govt. The report says about smuggling of weapons from China.
