Bangladesh wants to use the low-interest loans to build at least six rail projects connecting its capital Dhaka with key domestic industrial areas.

Beijing: China plans to provide Bangladesh with a whopping USD nine billion low-interest loan to build six rail projects including one close to the Indian border, official media in Beijing reported today.

Bangladesh wants to use the low-interest loans to build at least six rail projects connecting its capital Dhaka with key domestic industrial areas and the Indian border.

The upgrade was part of USD 30 billion plan by Bangladesh to modernise its railway system and China is ready to play an active role in this regard, an article in the state-run Global Times said.

China's reported offer to Bangladesh "attracted a lot of attention following analysts' suggestion that "Bangladesh has become a focus for the growing geopolitical rivalry between Beijing and New Delhi," it said.

China's strategic intentions to extend its trade tentacles across Asia through the promotion of the Belt and Road (Silk Road) initiative are believed to be behind Bangladesh's enthusiasm for rail, but this is worthy of debate," it said.

"Cheap financing from China expressly for this purpose is irresistible for Bangladesh. However, India may feel uncomfortable with the increased economic interaction between China and Bangladesh, which to some extent has long been seen as India's own backyard. But this is not necessarily a bad thing if Bangladesh's enhanced economic ties with China can put some pressure on New Delhi to pay more attention to strengthening economic cooperation with Dhaka," it said.

Again super power delusion from Bharati toilet media. If Bharat increase economic co-operation with China,it is a positive development for India,if Bharati make friendship with Pakistan, then it is bridge-building and aman ki asha. While any co-operation with China or Pakistan with Bangladesh causes pain in the as* of super poor bharati. As if we are their henchman for doing nasty things against bharat's enemy while bhatari do bridge building with enemy China-Pak.

Rare and very good opportunity BUT question is if Awami Legue regime will take this or listen to its master in Delhi and not act on it. We have seem China's deep sea port investment proposal and Chinese duty free access to Bangladesh were denied by Awami regime on advice from its indian master.

Did you even read the article you posted? NDTV was quoting directly from the CHINESE global times release:

Therefore these are words from Chinese media, not Indian one.

In your butthurt you have rushed to whine about India yet again without checking what exactly is what....and now you have egg on your face.

Maybe further withdrawal of international interaction with Bangladesh in light of the clear extremist threat within.... will teach you guys some manners to not mislabel quotes in a rush to paint some agenda....as though Bangladesh can be that selective now.

Extremism can't flourish in Bangladesh like that of Iraq,Syria,Pakistan or Afghanistan. We are in this situation now because until 1/2 years ago our govt. and general population were extremely relax about the threat of large scale voilent acts by the home grown or foreign linked extremism. With tightening security measure and national and internation co-operation,it can be effectively minimize in both probability and magnitude I believe. Our problem are much like Indonesia.Indonesia also suffered an episode of violent terrorism and foreignar killing like this. But with effective anti-terrorism measure they minimize the threat a lot.We are also going in that direction. So BD is becoming an economic wasteland due to IS terrorism is not true.At most they can slow down GDP growth some percentage point for few years.

That is for Bangladesh to prove and the world to judge.

The self-denial attitude can be seen in this forum itself....and one can only guess how much it permeates in Bangladesh itself.

Guess let's see....but you should nevertheless be wary about the source of statements before criticizing who you think are responsible for them.

Imagine if the world equated the words and actions of the JMB terror call with all of Bangladesh.

I think general Bangladeshi population up until now were not much aware about the horrors and brutality of islamic extremism. Some of our population are familiar with the atrocity done by islamic group in middle east or africa through electronic or print media. But that knowledge was incomplete and in cases misleading.A vast majority of muslim in BD still have some form of a romantic image of islam as a paragon of virtue and peace. I think these events will force them to see islam as it is.The monster of islamic terrorism is trying to subdue the modern civilization now because they know this is there last chance. They have to act before majority of muslim gain enlightenment through education, economic prosperity and free flow of information. This is the first time muslims are experiencing the rational criticism of their religion and are forced to think about the role of islam shaping the muslim society.Democracy, stability, educational and economic gain will make redundant the appeal of islam, they know it.That's why they are trying to attack directly those things with brutal forces.

There is going to be much churning like you say...and one can only imagine how much more blood and turmoil may result. Its fast turning into a now or never situation....this year and next holds the key...and probably up to 2020 or so.

One can only hope for the better (since its a coin flip to an outside observer like me) and I wish Bangladesh the best of luck....but proof will be in the pudding and I'm not going to hold my breath.

No, no, the BAL govt has already called IA troops to oust China. Isn't it you the @idune, who keeps on pouring all those news in this forum? Stop it.

China will turn Bangladesh into a strong army against the bully India. Once the Pakistanis, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh strong can united India as a nation called Pasribang (known as Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh).

Our well wisher dada India lives just behind our backyard and pokes its dirty nose in every development project that BD and China contemplate to plan and build together in BD. It started from deep seaport and seems will not stop at that. It is taking an all out effort to derail even the rail improvement projects.

We must accept Chinese support and start planning for the different railway projects that should end in Gundum near Burmese border.
