BEIJING, Sept. 8 -- The air forces of China and Pakistanbegan joint training exercises in China on Thursday.

China has dispatched J-11 fighters, JH-7 fighter-bombers, KJ-200 AWACS aircraft and ground forces including surface-to-air missile and radar troops, said Shen Jinke, spokesperson for the People's Liberation ArmyAir Force, adding the Chinese navy's aviation troops also participated in the training.

Pakistan has sent JF-17 Thunder fighter jets and early warning aircraft to join the exercise, named "Shaheen VI," which will run until Sept. 27, Shen said.

"To build a world-class air force, we need to learn from foreign armies and improve our capability to complete multiple tasks," said Shen, adding the Chinese air force will increase international exchanges and sharpen its combat effectiveness.

The "Shaheen" joint training was launched by the Chinese and Pakistani air forces in March 2011.

With awacs the field is evened out meaning suxx j-xx radar range and other electronics is not of significance even j-7 or f-7 with data link knows the whole battle field and Env. So then it's who is well trained plus better tactics and strategy wil win I am not talking about 1v1 or 1v2 but overall campaign

But there must be an element of WVR within the overall exercise, right? It will be interesting to know how that goes.

Is just a hunch but I think eventually plaaf/plaan will order some jf to replace existing j-7, j-8 and a-5s .... there are still 4-6 hundred may be more left in respective orgs. With these exercises plaaf/plaan will get more exposure especially when two seater is available plus Ws-13 achieve some stability

Unlikely. The Chinese have the j-10 for just that. The latest j-10s are on par with the f-16 blk 52s, if not better (at least on paper), while only being slightly more expensive than the jf-17. Simply put, the Chinese have a better option, so inducting the thunder wouldn't just be a redundancy, but a slight step back.
