China opposes US withdrawal from INF Treaty

Updated 2018-10-22

Chinese Foreign Ministry on Monday said the country opposes the US' move of withdrawing from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, calling on the US to "look before leaping".

Hua Chunying, the spokesperson from the ministry, made this remark after US President Donald Trump accused Russia of not honoring the agreement and threatened to pull out.

Hua has highlighted the importance of the treaty, saying it plays an important role in easing international tensions, controlling the nuclear process, and protecting global security in the past and present.

It is wrong of the US to unilaterally pull out of a landmark Cold War-era treaty, and will leave numerous negative results, said Hua.

China hopes the US could value the hard-earned achievements and resolve the issue through negotiation and talk, she added.

The INF Treaty was signed by then US president Ronald Reagan and former Soviet Union leader Mikhail Gorbachev in 1987, in a bid to halt the proliferation of nuclear and conventional missiles.

The pact worked toward the elimination of short- and intermediate-range nuclear and conventional missiles by both countries.

China and Russia are trying their best to keep the rogue US regime within more reasonable limits of going radical. Tall order, and I guess will fail.

@vostok , @Chinese-Dragon

There is nothing stopping China from withdrawing other UN conventions.

the treaty is with Russia

Isn't that obvious?

But China opposes it because it may lead to arms race between two already well-nuclear armed countries.

Of course, if the two further increases nuclear capability, China is left with no other option but to qualitatively and quantitatively improve its own.

In the end, we all got equalized at a higher treat level. But, still equal. The US regime simply cannot get it.

russia is no position to participate in nuclear arms race

If you oppose the US deployment of medium range missiles why don’t Chinese stop such thing of your own? If I recall the PLA even bragged in one video, true or not, having deployed short range nuclear missiles to threaten Vietnam.

Haven’t you ever looked yourself into a mirror?

There is nothing stopping China from withdrawing other UN conventions.
Nothing is stopping you. Leave the UN and invent your own club.

Show us the video, PLA is surely not Viet centric, let alone threaten with nuclear.

I can’t find the video anymore. It was circulating during the heightened tension some years ago. It’s not shocking. Chinese army is not strong enough to defeat the southern neighbor in a conventional war. The French, the US considered nuclear weapons against Vietnam during the decisive battles of Dien bien Phu and Khe sanh.

This is 2018, come back. Modern warfare is totally different from 50,60s.
Imagine Viet army fighting US in 90s Operation Desert Storm, I don't want to think about it, it would be a one side slaughter.

Ok then answer me this question:

Has China deployed short range nuclear missiles in the southern theater?

Yes or No?

Almost all cruise missiles, conventional missiles in our inventory are nuclear compatible just like the rest of UN permenant members, what is wrong with that?
Again, this is 2018, no one is going to use nuclear on Vietnam, stop deluding yourself.

Why should Vietnam fight a war today by the same way she did in the past? Why don’t you fight today by wearing the same silly dress of the Manchu?

You are out of mind.
