I did not understand the King Effect at this point but will still reply.
Should the huge historic populations of India and China have been allowed to continue in post World War 2 / post Colonial modern time ?
Russia is the world's largest country in size yet has a population of slightly more than 140 million.
Well, I was just making a point about unsustainability in India and China if its middle class and upper class are allowed to continue their highly consumerist lifestyle.
But yes, your underlined point is correct. Such a thing should be imposed all over the world. I believe when Uber started its service in America its advertisement was that many Americans will no longer need to bring out their vehicles to go somewhere because they can depend on Uber.
Two things struck me from the article :
1. The governments seem to be focusing more though occasionally on sterilization in rural areas when there are also so many economically deprived people in urban areas, living in slums and in pipes, and having more children than they can get them to prosper. But this is also a case of government mis-spending ( on the military, on unnecessary construction projects etc ) and of socio-economic disparity ( Mukesh Ambani's 27-storey "house" ).
2. Many middle class families are still conservative and produce three children as well and push them into middle class poverty, where they will be able to buy consumer items and flats on loan but for years be wage slaves to repay the loans. They will birth children who will repeat the cycle. And they will be culturally conservative as well. Hindus and Muslims alike.
So all in all, burdensome on the planet's ecosystem and societally disharmonious.
