New Delhi: China, and not Pakistan, is the focus of the Defence Ministry's latest 15-year plan for all the three services.

The latest integrated perspective plan, which will be in force from 2012 to 2027, is aimed at equipping the Indian armed forces to move from the current stage of dissuasion to deterrence against China. The plan is currently in the final stages of preparation.

According to the plan, by 2020, India wants to have dedicated Mountain Strike Corps, over 90,000 men specifically meant for deployment in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh and equipped for offensive operations.

To begin with, the military wants all the planned roads in these high altitude areas to be completed on priority basis.

India is also activating, revamping and upgrading its air bases along the China border both in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh. This includes at least eight advance-landing grounds. Nyoma air base, barely 25 km from the Line of Actual Control, will eventually have Su-30 combat jets stationed there.

The Army is all set to improve the living conditions in high altitude areas by placing over 5,000 specially-designed, self-contained, thermally-insulated shelters for troops so that they can withstand temperatures going down to minus 40 degrees.

In the long run, India also plans to acquire and deploy ultra-light howitzers and light tanks in Ladakh to bolster security there.

Even the Indian Navy is planning for future contingencies by planning to operate two carrier battle groups, several stealth battleships, submarines and long-range reconnaissance planes.

Another important component in the long-term plan is to beef up the fledgling tri-services Andaman and Nicobar Command to keep a closer vigil on the strategically crucial south east Asian region as well as the Mallaca Straits.

This is over and above the on-going plans to develop 8,000-km range inter-continental ballistic missiles in the coming decade. ;)

Our growing power is definitely a threat to India, but it doesn't mean that we are actually hostile toward India. :coffee:
And if it does mean, there can be nothing we can do. So not letting our guard down.
BTW...if India starts to catch up with China, dunno what happens to countries trying to catch up with India. :P

China's strategy with Pakistan indeed prevents India's dominance and conquest in Asia.

However, naturally we don't really possess the evil intention to harm India. :coffee:

Is China is a military threat to India? Not in the short or medium term although China is militarily stronger. I don't see a Chinese version of Hamid Zaid spewing venom about conquering Delhi. Pakistan is a threat in the sense that while they will not win a war with India - some of their leaders are crazy enough to go down in a blaze of glory for ahem rewards in the after-life. Nor are the Chinese conducting overt or covert terrorism in India. It is good to be vigilant against the Chinese but to call them a bigger threat than Pakistan is pushing it.

Pakistan is a concern...not a threat. China is a serious threat.

china is a threat but not bigger than pakistan , let's not foget that china is a more responsible nation than pakistan , as a big nation it has more international commitments and responsibility toward's peace and stability in the region , it will also not want to jeoparadize its economic growth rate by going on war with india , while it you see pakistan , it's a more instable nation with very less to prove or lose in a war

All those strategies were in the good old days. Now the scenario is changing. Main factor is economy and the relations between china and Pakistan in the aftermath of OBL raid.

Well - Russia - China - India - Pakistan - Iran would make a great economic block (the old silk route) no need for NATO or USA just put them on list of no trade

Probbly Japan would eventually join

Our Priority is Economy and I hope both India and China will do very well.

No - the Chinese did not conduct 26/11 or orchestrated attack on Parliament or Akshardham. China is a potential threat - but stapling Visas is not the same as killing innocent women and children.

the union could eventually become the strongest block of the world , even stronger than nato, it could also end the west interference in asia

I don't think China is a big threat but some concerns are there due to various reasons.

India-China Competition will increase the gap in huge way between India and Pakistan. Sometime, Threat is Good. :agree:
