you have a good point but with addition of good ambition, a enlarged space station ( iss or otherwise ) can become construction yard... projects like "mars one" and spacex's own plans need such things.

and to enlarge, there are the inflatable space stations built by bigelow aerospace.

when spacex starts taking people to iss, russia and china should persude spacex to force nasa to reduce its contribution in the iss... nasa is but a arm of usa government.

and i don't know if the chinese space module, tiangong, can be attached to iss.

LMAO American start to making concession so they hope to be able to access to China's future space station as reprocity. China still interested in ISS's technology to collect or absorbe any technology that still usefull to China than I think it's worth to step into the ISS but American will have no hope to be the permanant member of our space station, if they allow us to stay 10 days in ISS, we will let them 10 days in our station...unless they're ready to contribute to our station either financially or technologically until they prove to be a worthy friend in space.

When we make our own space station, we make our rules and write our law in space cooperation as how we do with AIIB which IMF or world bank had little to say.

The Russia docking failure is a blessing for CSA. The American are more and more worry of Russian unreliable rocket to do docking and send manned crew to ISS. They are forced to allow CSA to participate in ISS as backup of Russian space rocket.

But as I say, China shall refused American requested to join ISS.

If China join ISS is mainly for our own interest we dont have any obligation to save ISS, we can bargain in advantageous position than to be the beggar as before, now it turn out that Americans will beg us to help ISS...this is a good new for China regardless if we gonna join ISS or not.

The ISS programme is a joint project between NASA, Roscosmos, JAXA, ESA and the CSA (Canadian Space Agency). Since US Congress prohibits NASA from any form of co-operation with China, they will definitely not invite CNSA (China National Space Agency) to ISS.

By all means even if somehow NASA does invite, China should refuse. One of many reasons, a more superficial one, is that ISS is already an old programme. Let's continue our focus on say Shenzhou, Tiangong and the likes, as already planned, and continue to go solo (might work with agencies not on ISS programme though).

China should jointly develop together with rest of the BRICS(and any other decent countries) a new space station.No need to cooperate with the West-they are insane.They are useless-cant even produce their own manned craft .Just look at recent talks in USA about ownership of the Moon and gathering resources in space -speaks about insanity and delusion.

I wont burn the bridge if invited unless there are heavy strings attached like crazy financial comitments etc

Any opportunities available to us for a real-time visit inside of an advanced space structure should be a bonus for us.

One day we will be the host inside of our own space station inviting foregn guests to come over for joint operations during a certain period. National pride aside, we are still far behind the USA in space explorations. There is no logical reasons to refuse the invitation unless aforesaid circumstances help us to exit with a good excuse
