China may give up Iran oil to protect relationship with US
Iran is a key supporter of China's Belt and Road Initiative and Chinese companies have invested billions in Iranian oil fields, but that may not be enough to defy US sanctions.

China is the biggest buyer of Iranian oil and the two countries have grown closer in recent years, with Iranbecoming an important supporter of China's Belt and Road Initiative.

But as it responds to the end US sanctions waivers on Iranian oil, China needs to be careful not to jeopardise delicate trade talks with the United States.

Despite publicly opposing the unilateral US sanctions, China may give up its Iranian oil imports to appease Washington.

Al Jazeera's Katrina Yu has more from Beijing.

Hahah what a great response from a poodle. At least my master gave me some bones. India is the first to say yes to US sanctions...until today China is opposed to US sanctions. This article used the world MAY, a favourite Indian word, that's why you go all orgasmic.

Stranded because not all refineries and companies are immune to US sanctions. Unlike India, we are not poodles.

LOL... Another faked news. China will not stop buying Iranian oil. US cannot do anything about China. China can act as bridge for Iranian oil into international market.

LOL.. The oil will eventually taken by China. It just a tactic to further shove down the price for Iranian oil.

Pakistan has reduced it's exports to Iran to $21 million and imports also fell by 60% because of US sanctions.

KARACHI: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has advocated promotion of barter trade between Pakistan and Iran as the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) between the two countries was not fully utilised due to international sanctions on Iran.

FPCCI President Daroo Khan Achakzai, in a statement, appreciated the prime minister’s visit to Iran and said it would open opportunities for enhancing bilateral trade and economic cooperation. Presently, Pakistan and Iran enjoy PTA which gives concessions on 18 percent of items, but this PTA was not being utilised fully due to international sanctions on Iran. “Pakistan is losing its market of mangoes, rice, citrus fruit and other agriculture items,” he added.

He urged on the promotion of barter trade between both nations, as Pakistan has huge potential in exporting of agriculture products and edible fruit and vegetables, while in return Iran has potential to export crude oil and petroleum products.

Quoting statistics, the FPCCI president said bilateral trade between Pakistan and Iran stood at $398.5 million, wherein the volume of Pakistan’s export to Iran was $21.0 million and import from Iran was $377.4 million.

Below is direct from Indian Minister of petroleum.

China is unlikely to completely stop importing oil from Iran.

"We are debating whether or not China will cease their imports. We're leaning towards they won't," Matt Sallee, portfolio manager at energy investment firm Tortoise, told CNN Business.
India, meanwhile, said it will be able to offset the reduction in Iranian exports, even though it has previously said that it only recognizes sanctions by the United Nations.
"There will be additional supplies from other major oil producing countries," India's petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan said on Twitter overnight. "Indian refineries are fully prepared to meet the national demand," he added.
