China lashes out at US over drone attacks in Pakistan
Posted: February 28, 2014 - 2343 PKT
BEIJING: CChina on Friday issued a report on human rights in the US, denouncing it for foreign drone strikes, state-sponsored spying and "rampant" gun crime after Washington criticised its rights record.

Beijing said the US "concealed and avoided mentioning its own human rights problems", such as a government-run intelligence programme known as PRISM which it said "seriously infringes on human rights".

The document came after the State Department issued its annual global human rights report Thursday.

China regularly produces a statement on the US in response. It does not release rights reports aimed at other countries.

The report, released by China's State Council, or cabinet, singled out the US for criticism for drone strikes in countries such as Pakistan, which it said have caused "heavy civilian casualties".

It also said the US suffers from "rampant gun violence", while its agricultural sector employs a "large amount of child labourers".

Washington's report released on Thursday praised China for some successes in human rights, such as the abolition of some labour camps and a change to the one-child policy.

But it added that "repression and coercion, particularly against organisations and individuals involved in civil and political rights advocacy... were routine".

It also noted Beijing's continued repression of ethnic Uighurs and Tibetans.

Foreign ministry spokesman Qin Gang accused the US of hypocrisy.

"The US is always making irresponsible remarks on the affairs of other countries but keeps silent on its own affairs," he told reporters at a regular briefing. "This is a typical double standard."

Human rights are a long-standing source of tensions between China and the US, which imposed sanctions on Beijing after the 1989 Tiananmen Square crackdown on pro-democracy protesters which left hundreds or thousands dead.

References in the Chinese document showed that much of it was sourced from US media reports, some from sources blocked by China's internet controls which are sometimes referred to as the Great Firewall.

China's ruling Communist Party tightly controls its own domestic media and has repeatedly imprisoned those who openly challenge its right to rule.

China often says that its rapid economic development in recent decades has led to a greater respect for human rights, and that other countries are not entitled to criticise its record. (AFP)

Oh china, waited patiently for EU to pass a resolution against it. Good going.

Organ transplants? I fail to see how that would affect China in any way.

LOL. EU recently passed a resolution against drone strikes. China waited all these years to bash US over drone strikes because it was waiting for international backing. Some all weather friend, isn't it?

Friend or not but why are you so obsessed with Pakistan?

Were they asleep for the last so many years?

The Chinese have been criticizing the drone war for a long time. They brought it up in response to American criticism of Chinese rights, not because the EU passed a similar resolution in particular.

Maybe the Chinese should criticize the Pakistani govt. for supporting the drone attacks behind the scenes.

Friends know why Drone strikes are happening in Pakistan and with whose permission, but you should worry more more about operating sub marines

For an American you got a surprise narrow mind, but then again, maybe you are one of those crazy ultra conservatives.

Do you think rape victims are at fault because they are weak?

Pakistan is not in a great position to stop these strikes if they want US help, for all the talk of China colonizing developing countries, the US should really look itself in the mirror for what that actually looks like.

For a people so proud of capitalism, how can you not recognize simple business deals when you see it, but then again when other people view China, they don't wear 10 inch thick colored glasses.

oh yea dude, it's with European backing that we started to reclaim our lost lands and started direct confrontations with Americans and their allies.

How could I forget, British ships were behind ours when we claimed our islands from the Philippines, French fighters were behind ours when we confronted American and Japanese fighters, and how can I forget German help when we started monitor and almost hit American ships.

To the EU I thank you for all that support, for without you, we would be lost.

You don't even know which resolution I am talking about do you?
:omghaha::rofl:

now that Drone strikes are already stopped by USA for the sake of our sham "peace talks" so it doesnt really Matter
China just settled the score for USA's annual report on human rights

as far as EU resolution is concerned, there is a very famous comment by American official that comes to mind it is doing rounds on youtube and different TV channels where she in phone conversation with the US ambassador in Ukraine says "**** the EU".

my take on drones is mixed, there were some very deliberate attacks on civilians (e.g. the one right after RD flew back to USA) and then some resulting in the deaths of some really nasty sons of bitches who thought they were out of reach from even god.
