China today said it is ready to make concerted efforts with India to lift their bilateral strategic cooperative partnership to a higher level as they pursue a great dream of national rejuvenation.

Greeting India on its 66th Republic Day, Chinese President Xi Jinping, in a message to President Pranab Mukherjee, said China is delighted with India’s achievements in its development.

Both China and India, as two ancient civilisations, are pursuing a great dream of national rejuvenation, he said.

Xi said China is willing to make concerted efforts with India to lift their strategic cooperative partnership oriented to peace and prosperity to a higher level this year which marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

In his message to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said in recent years, China and India have kept a stronger momentum in joining hands for cooperation and seeking common development.

China is ready to work with India to deepen their mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields and build a closer partnership of development, he said.

China on Monday extended conditional support for India's Nuclear Suppliers Group membership bid but said "prudence and caution" needs to be exercised on the issue, a day after US President Barack Obama backed India's inclusion into the elite 48-member body.

"We believe that such (an) inclusion should be conducive to the integrity and effectiveness of the regime and decision should be made on consensus. We notice India's commitment to relevant issues," Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said at a media briefing.

"We support the group to include new members and we support India to take further measures to meet the requirements for the inclusion in the group," she said.

In an effort to strengthen global non-proliferation and export control regimes, India and the US on Sunday committed to continue to work towards India's phased entry into the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR), the Wassenaar Arrangement and the Australia Group.

Last thing Chinese want is to see India as a permanent member of NSG and UNSC . But how can UN egnore 1/6th of the world population with ranking at top 5 economy and with responsible NP history . It's a done deal . US UK Russia Australia all support India . So nothing Chinese can do but to extend support . But they will add all this words like Conditional just to tap on their best friend's back.

We have determined that India has, by and large, met the conditions for joining the NSG. There are a few final procedural reforms to make and industry standards to adopt, but no indomitable obstacles exist, so there are no good reasons to oppose their membership bid.

However, India's entry would have to be conditional on Pakistan's simultaneous entry. The world must renounce discrimination by acknowledging that both highly populated nations have an urgent need for civilian nuclear power, and moreover, have demonstrated the required aptitude to handle complex, dual-use technology.

I hope India can support Pakistan's bid too. It would send the wrong message to the world if India, having been magnanimously offered the ladder, decides immediately to kick the ladder away from other prospective members.

We let India into SCO and invited India into APEC, India didn't do the same with SARRC or something.

UNSC and NSG is not a Chinese problem, there are other nations against it, and there are other nations for it, we didn't veto India into the UNSC, if US is as serious as you think they are, as are the others, then India would have been in.

Even if we do have reservations, it would hardly be a veto.

First, use nominal, nobody use PPP, as Americans continue to let us know after we passed them in PPP. Second, all NP are responsible, you guys got to not ride Pakistan so hard, Nuclear hasn't proliferated, that's a fact. NK is special.

Lastly, I'll say this, China doesn't want a weak India, a weak India can't divert attention from US. A weak India is useless for China's point of view.

We want India to be strong, we have the confidence to be stronger still, but that's irrelevant to the fact that we want India to be strong.

We like playing with fire, but that's only fun, if the fire is actually burning bright and is not dying out. A strong fire can keep you warm, a weak fire can't even light up your path.

I agree. PPP is a useless measure and only bandied about by people with a chip on their shoulder. In fact, China tried to suppress reports about its economy being larger than that of the US in PPP terms because it's completely meaningless - the same measure that Indians love to brag about when they dishonestly claim they're "the third largest".

In reality, however, when using nominal GDP (a more absolute measure that ranks each country according to the same standards), China still lags a great deal behind the US while India's economy is barely more powerful than that of Italy.

And that conditional support for India includes the admission of Pakistan into the NSG. China does know what's good for it.

India is a nobody in this world. Only time India comes into the headlines is when the West wants a favour. India is very considered a power by itself. That's why the West uses India like a lab rat.
