China issues safety notice to tourists in Turkey
July 6, 2015

The Chinese embassy in Turkey has warned tourists to be careful of anti-China protests after some Chinese tourists were attacked and disturbed in the country.

The embassy posted a notice on its website on Sunday, warning that Chinese tourists should not get close to or film protesters as there have been multiple demonstrations against the Chinese government across Turkey.

The notice suggests visitors "minimize to the greatest extent outside activities on one's own".

According to local media reports, a small group of protesters attacked a Chinese restaurant which is actually Turkish-owned.

Protesters also attacked a group of Korean visitors by mistake, who were later rescued by riot police.

Some Turkish media previously reported that China banned Muslims in Xinjiang from worship and fasting during the holy month of Ramadan.

The Chinese side has strongly refuted to such reports.

Turkey is very unstable. The Kurds do not like them. The Armenians do not like them. It's really a build up of anger from having lost the great Ottoman Empire. They want to be important to the world but on world stage they are less important than Iran.

Honestly, I have no reason to go to Turkey. If I want to explore Islam culture I can go to Iran, a lot more safer. Better yet, I can go to beautiful Xinjiang and enjoy the breath taking beauty while feeling safe. I cannot honestly think of one reason why I would need to travel to Turkey unless for business.

Turkish nationalists protesting China's treatment of ethnic Uighur Muslims attacked a group of Korean tourists in the heart of Istanbul's old city on Saturday, mistaking them for Chinese nationals.

Hundreds of angry protesters marched towards the Topkapi Palace on the banks of the Bosphorus Strait in a show of solidarity with the Turkic Uigurs, who complain of cultural and religious suppression under Chinese rule.

Shouting "Allahu Akbar" (God is the Greatest), they attacked some Koreans outside the Topkapi Palace, which is visited by thousands of tourists every day.

Turkey’s tourism sector hit by drop in arrivals | Turkey 2015 | Oxford Business Group

Turkey is still having tourists from major Arab countries but Western and Russian tourists are starting to feel scared. The news should definitely be made available to the general public. Maybe our friend @AndrewJin can tell us whether such reports are made in Mainland media.

The travel warning has originally been announced by China's Embassy in Turkey.
