Only reason why China's HDI is still relatively low is because there is a massive gap between the HDI of the older generations and the younger generations. China has developed so quickly that the younger generations are basically living in a whole new world. The HDI of China's younger generations are equivalent to that of Southern or Western Europe.

It ranges around $15,000 a year now for typical factory workers, and keep in mind, many big factories provide free lodging and food. In big cities, it is more like $25,000-$30,000 a year. Many factories have had problems finding workers in recent years and thus, salaries have risen.

Also keep in mind most of these rural migrants also own their own properties back in the countryside where their families stay. So their net worth is actually probably higher than many European workers who just rent.
