The Indian public seems to be having a hard time accepting the outcome of the Seoul plenary meeting of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) late last month after India failed to gain entry into the NSG. Many Indian media put the blame on China alone, accusing China of anti-India and pro-Pakistan motives behind its opposition. Some activists even took to the streets in protest against China and Chinese products, and some observers said the incident would freeze the China-India relationship.

India's precautions against China cannot be clearer. The country seems to be still stuck in the shadow of the war with China in the 1960s and many still hold on to the obsolete geopolitical view that China does not want to see India rise. However, New Delhi may have misunderstood Beijing, which can make a big difference in its strategic decisions.

In fact, China no longer looks at India simply from a political perspective, but far more from an economic one. Zheng Xiyuan, China's consulate-general in Mumbai, said last year that China's development offers opportunities to India and vice versa. Only by seeking common development between China and India can the two build a new international order and form an Asian century. The obviously cooperative attitude has wide representation as an increasing number of people now care about economic progress more than anything else and believe that India's rapid economic development can actually help improve its relations with China. Many regions in China are looking for business opportunities in the fast-growing India. Chinese citizens may not realize the full potential of India, but in general they are attaching far more importance to the neighboring country than ever before.

India needs to perceive China objectively. Joining the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) is a must for any country seeking NSG membership, but India is not a party to the NPT. The only exception is if India can obtain consent from all 48 NSG members, but several countries apart from China hold reservations in this regard. India had better put more efforts into figuring out how to obtain international trust rather than misinterpreting and defaming China.

Political scientist Zheng Yongnian said that China's bilateral relationship with India is second only to the Sino-US relationship. Ties with China are of great significance to India as well. The best option is for China and India to work together to boost their economic and trade ties.

"India must sign NPT"

Who sets these rules and who obeys them?

Seems China is getting confused regarding this !

India will get NSG membership, blame it on your diplomacy and bullying attitude !

.
We will not get into NSG as long as China is there but i believe a time will come when member countries itself will disembark the group and will form a new one.....the only thing to be seen is who will join the Chinese group apart from Pak

Does it matter?

Yes it does, Global times is not some ordinary paper but the mouth piece of communist party. It seem India has entered their central discourse.

From the OP
Political scientist Zheng Yongnian said that China's bilateral relationship with India is second only to the Sino-US relationship. Ties with China are of great significance to India as well.

Why Chinese Global Times publishing at least one article on India China relation every other day?
Well!, not single article on NSG waiver of India, hence they are compensating for something

Does it matter?
Global times is considered as CCP's opinion or opinions it wants its citizens to know.

Note the fact they there is not a single Global times article mentioning the blunderous embarrassing statement by its own foreign ministry spokesperson stating,:"India's NSG issue would not even be raised in Seoul."

Not necessarily.

India got its NSG waiver in 2008, when China was a member.

As long as you have a good stick you can force them to get your things done. Take a cue from Russians and Americans on how they deal with the Chinese.

How will India get NSG membership if China vetoes it and it will keep vetoing it until it wishes.

Your dearest ally Russia, iran and other members of SCO....and all other members of AIIB (China led bank), they will join another NSG, which China will led, if what you says comes true.........you Indians appears very foolish when you disregard China and its influence....That goes to show how much nightmares you have when it comes to China and Pakistan......always mentioning these two in one line/breadth.......

When China was forming AIIB, no one thought of that it will have so many members and even from the west, including UK......Now when China will form its own NSG, ready your New Delhi for surprise......China is going to be more connected with world than India, thus having more influence and Pakistan having support of Muslim world, will give its helping hand to China, of course.

World is not uni polar anymore....baby.

Theory of Rationality requires acceptance and adaptation from India. PR and branding does not cut. The gap is just too huge between India and China. And it is not just infrastructure. In every facet. One is civilisational country and other one is a new construct.

For peace and prosperity rationality would be wise choice. India is a great regional power and this fact should be respected. Globally, the situation is quite fluid and struggle is only intensifying. Math is not on Indian side yet. Yet is the operative word here. Potential no doubt about it. But math is unforgiving here.

Anyone who will deny India's potential is making strategic mistake. NSG and other such goups are in Indian elite's mind must have for the end game of UNSC seat. Which won't happen until global new order and global governance is agreed. BRICS is under the bus. Only Russia and China still standing. India has joined the other block.

So, yeah very interesting times ahead for the students of international affairs.

India wants to become a super power. What is the modern defintion of this status?
