Beijing: Ten months after the pilgrimage was stopped following the Doklam standoff, India and China on Sunday agreed to resume the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra through the Nathu La route in Sikkim.

The decision was made during talks between External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Beijing. "We are happy that the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra through the Nathu La route will be resumed this year (2018). I am confident that with Chinese side's full cooperation, this year the yatra will be a fulfilling experience for the visiting Indian pilgrims," Swaraj said during a joint press statement with Wang.

Swaraj and Wang on Sunday discussed a host of bilateral issues and ways to step up the pace of high-level interactions to improve the relationship. "We will work closely with the Chinese leadership to take India-China cooperation to new heights," she said

On his part, Wang said the bilateral ties have witnessed a good development and shown a positive momentum this year under the guidance of the leaders of the two nations.

Swaraj arrived in Beijing on Saturday on a four-day visit to take part in the foreign ministers' meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra:

Ministry of External Affairs organises the yatra from June to September each year through two different routes - Lipulekh Pass (Uttarakhand) and Nathu La Pass (Sikkim). The yatra, which holds religious value, cultural significance, is undertaken by hundreds of people every year.

Holding significance for Hindus as the abode of Lord Shiva, it holds religious importance also for the Jains and the Buddhists. It is open to eligible Indian citizens, holding valid Indian passports, who wish to proceed to Kailash-Manasarovar for religious purposes.

The yatra was stopped by China in the aftermath of the military face-off with India in 2017 at Doklam.

The Doklam standoff began on June 16 after the Indian troops intervened and stopped the Chinese Army from building a road in the area claimed by Bhutan as it posed a security risk to Chicken Neck, the narrow corridor connecting India with its north-eastern states. Finally, the two armies 'disengaged' on August 28, 2017.

You dont have water to bargain... Indias brahmaputra receives much of its water share from India itself.

Our Govt doesn't have to agree with my views to ban Hindus Pilgrims last year and certainly they can repeat on the future. It doesn't matter if Modi and Xi will be meet this will not settle permanently this issue.

tell that to your government that and ask them stopping to bugging us with water data sharing:disagree: . And we will be glad to verify your statement with our red flag river project, if India side doesn't protest...then you can claim that we don't have any water bargain but regardless if whether India likes or not, water is on our side, we will do what ever we want.

Only 7% of brahmaputras water comes from china really not much but what china can do is open its dams and release the stored water there by flooding parts of NE that is an issue that India has problem with. India is lucky in this regard that even though we are in the souther hemisphere we dont have to depend on any country for our water resources. All our rivers either originate in India or have largest contribution to its water flow with in India

“Out of five major tributaries of Brahmaputra, only three come from China, rest are from Arunachal Pradesh. Of the total water entering (Brahmaputra), only 7% is contributed by precipitation in China. What can the Chinese do? How much can they divert?” said a senior Indian government official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Read the first post int the below page.

NE India receives almost 3000mm of rainfall, chirapunji alone receives more than 11,000 mm of rainfall, where as the Tibetan plateau avges around 200mm, even if china stops the entire flow of Brahmaputra it will make a little dent in the mighty river. Now consider the fact that only 3% of India's population lives in brahmaputra's basin. We are more than good here.

Not quite sure of your statement, your so call Indian strategist Brahma Chellaney cried all day long about China water issue and claim to have a water war with China. Why we want to open the dam when we can produce much electricity out of it, that was India's excuse for asking China water data sharing, they're so concern of China water diversion.

Or should I say this way if Indians don't buy our product, no more Hindu pilgrimage allowed in Tibet so keep buying our good, more less we have reach an agreement
