China’s Economic Czar Warns U.S. Treasury Secretary on Tariffs
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESSMARCH 24, 2018

BEIJING — China’s newly appointed economic czar told Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin on Saturday that Beijing was ready to defend its interests after President Trump announced plans to slap tariffs on billions of dollars worth of Chinese imports.

Vice Premier Liu He told Mr. Mnuchin in a phone call that the order Mr. Trump signed on Thursday violated international trade rules, China’s official Xinhua News Agency reported.

The White House says the planned tariffs are intended to punish Beijing for what it depicts as the theft of American technology.

Xinhua quoted Mr. Liu as saying that China was “ready and capable of defending its national interest and hopes both sides will remain rational.”
China said Friday that it planned to raise tariffs on a $3 billion list of American goods, including pork, apples and steel pipes in response to the steel and aluminum duties announced earlier by Mr. Trump.

The Chinese move appeared to be a warning shot aimed at increasing domestic pressure on Mr. Trump by making clear which exporters, including those in farm areas that voted for the president in 2016, might be hurt.

American farmers, from hog producers in Iowa to apple growers in Washington State to winemakers in California, expressed deep disappointment over being put in the middle of a potential trade war with China.

China’s Commerce Ministry said Beijing was considering a tariff increase of 25 percent on pork and aluminum scrap, mirroring Mr. Trump’s 25 percent charge on steel. A second list of goods, including wine, apples, ethanol and stainless steel pipe, would be charged 15 percent, mirroring Mr. Trump’s tariff hike on aluminum.

Over all, United States farmers shipped nearly $20 billion of goods to China in 2017. The American pork industry sent $1.1 billion in products, making China the No. 3 market for American pork.

“No one wins in these tit-for-tat trade disputes, least of all the farmers and the consumers,” said Jim Heimerl, a pig farmer from Johnstown, Ohio, and the president of the National Pork Producers Council.

The United States has complained for years about China’s sharp-elbowed trading practices, accusing it of pirating trade secrets, manipulating its currency, forcing foreign companies to hand over technology and flooding world markets with cheap steel and aluminum that drive down prices and put American manufacturers out of business.

The spiraling trade dispute between the world’s two largest economies has spurred concerns among companies and investors that global commerce could be depressed.

Now it seem very interesting in Sino-US relation, we're reach the economy parity to US, we have as much as economic weapons to deal with US economic aggression, hurt China economy and US will not get away so easily.
It's futile for US to have trade war against China because US will get triple slaps on the faces: first American suppliers such Soybean, Pork, Boeing which will lose 100% in Chinese market, second US manufacturers will suffer from Trump tariff when we export American design product back to US such Apple (IPhone), we only made a thin profit (5% to 6%)while American corporate rip the great chunk of profit (95% to 96%). Third American will be the one to suffer from inflation and less buying power.

Next....I'm looking forward China to reach the military parity.

With crazy John Bolton in the White House, you will need to reach military parity up to five times as fast as your current pace.

Yeah this Hawkish guy, it's not the first nor the last that China will have to deal with. With 175 billions as defense budget, China is more less have equivalent US's defense budget if we take consideration of salary ratio consider US has to pay American working in defense 5 times more than China has to pay for each Chinese: most Chinese war machines are made in China include all components so virtually all defense contracts and acquisitions are done with Chinese salary at exception of few import items such SU-35, S-400 and Russian engines with just a fraction of our defense budge. When we reach US defense budget parity, we will have better chance to reach military parity, if China keep continue this pace, we will not lag far behind of US.

hopefully he starts a war with Iran and NK first.

I wonder if striking either Iran or North Korea would be too much of a Red Line for President Putin of Russia to tolerate.

If Putin saw a red line in Syria, i'm sure he won't tolerate a full scale war against Iran either. I think the matter is more urgent for China rather Russia when it comes down to DPRK. China doesn't want US military right next to us, we made sure the US had a very tough time during the Vietnam war and didn't hesitate a moment to launch a full scale attack against the Yankees when North Koreans couldn't handle the situation.

.
If China imposes tariffs on aluminum imports, good ole Boeing, one of America's largest exporter in terms of revenues will suffer heavily against Airbus and it's CEO and CEOs of other corps. will be in the white house bright and early the next morning. It seems like China is playing cautious and ratcheting up the pressure slowly, giving this Agent Orange a chance to come to his senses before it's too late for both countries.

.
The Yanks are desperate. Only a desperate nation would impose such insane tariffs against a trading partner. China could easily play this game and return the favor. China is not a hotheaded nation. It is observing. Just give it some time.

I'm not worry too much about Trump tariff plan. It's just a scheme to bring us to the table to negotiate more seriously. In fact, if that happen, there is going to be a civil war in the US over the rich and poor fighting over commonalities.
