China Gained Nothing, Only Lost Face at the End of Nine Months of Standoff, Says Lt Gen YK Joshi

In an exclusive interview to CNN-News18, Lt Gen Joshi said the Chinese had been aiming to shift their claims further along the LAC and acquire more dominating heights but they have achieved nothing in the past nine months and have gone back to status quo ante.

At the end of nine months of military standoff with the Indian Army in eastern Ladakh, China has only lost face and earned a bad name, said Lt Gen YK Joshi, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Army’s Northern Command.

In an exclusive interview to CNN-News18, Lt Gen Joshi said the Chinese had been aiming to shift their claims further along the LAC and acquire more dominating heights but they have achieved nothing in the past nine months and have gone back to status quo ante.

"It's very surprising that they did what they did. I was a brigade commander from 2009-11, when we had only 2 battalions looking after the entire Eastern Ladakh," he expressed astonishment at China's attempts to shift the Line of Actual Control (LAC). ) as far as possible.

Explaining what could have motivated Chinese action and what they hoped to gain from the situation, Lt Gen Joshi said, "Since 2009-11, we have been improving force levels in these areas. We have been improving infrastructure in these areas and we are drawing The Chinese have realized this and they are looking to shift the claims westwards, acquire more dominating heights, shift the LAC as far as possible till we arrive at a clarification of the LAC. So, that was their aim but then China has achieved nothing post this. "

"They have gone back to status quo ante, all their forces have gone back, and all the landforms have been restored. They just earned a bad name and nothing else," he said.

China was only trying to save face after India gained leverage in the disengagement talks by occupying the heights of Kailash Range on August 29, 30. "Post 29, 30, we've had these three flag meetings - 7th, 8th and 9th. In these meetings, China was looking for a face-saver. But in these three flag meetings, China realized that we will not be relenting. "

On the question of a possible lapse in detecting China's movements and more importantly intentions, Lt Gen Joshi said, "I would not say it was a lapse. Every year the PLA comes on the western highway in the area of Khangsewar, Saidullah, and They carry out the exercises and last year the same thing happened. But if we were to hazard a guess on China's intention, that was not very clear immediately. That got clear when they came to Galwan, up to patrol point 15, 17 Alpha and subsequently on the North bank as well. "

Even as India and China agreed to disengage on February 10, the standoff has led to major distrust between the two sides. "Given the fact that they broke all the agreements and they did what they did, currently, the trust levels are low. We have to build up this trust again if we want to have peace."

However, Lt Gen Joshi said, "The Chinese have shown their sincerity of intent or purpose in carrying out the disengagement process. And as agreed earlier, we started on February 10 and they have been doing it at a very rapid pace.

And the other thing China lost is that they left a big big job for 50 cent army and their cheer leaders to defend Chinese humiliation for next few years.

According to India general, the details about this plan:

India has committed intelligence, operational and, now, negotiating lapses while managing the border standoff with China. After rejecting, it has conceded to a Chinese proposal of September 2020 containing a segregated agreement on phased disengagement, de-escalation and de-induction north and south of the Pangong Tso lake, according to which India will vacate the pivotal commanding heights on the Chushul range on its side of the LAC for a Chinese pullback from Finger 4 to Finger 8, an outright 8-km intrusion into Indian territory.

That is not all. Indian troops will move from Finger 4 to west of Finger 3. The space vacated will become a buffer zone in which patrolling will be suspended.

Still worse, there is no iron-clad linkage of this agreement with subsequent negotiations on the Gogra/Hot Springs, Demchok and especially Depsang where the Chinese have intruded 18 km and imposed a patrolling ban for the Indian forces.

I am pretty sure China is very happy with the current plan, and indians here are also very happy, so a big win-win

I disagree, during standoff time china invented "quick dry diapers" and supplied to all the PLA ladhak warriors.
The Chinese leadership high on opium heavily miscalculated American responses and it cost them their Ladakh adventure

When USS Theodore Roosevelt was not at operational due to Covid

COVID-19 pandemic on USS Theodore Roosevelt

Chinese decided to take advantage of this by naval deployments to the region where the USS Theodore Roosevelt left. Little did they know then how this event would backfire

Later, deluded they had succeeded against Americans, decided to take advantage of India postponing Ladakh exercises and initial Indian response for diplomacy made China feel victorious, not realizing Doval and co were buying time for bringing Indian military to operational readiness

Trump here turned be a crazy wildcard, who was happy to escalate a small scale conflict for his elections
For this he stoked tensions prior to elections
Two US aircraft carriers are operating in the South China Sea; Air Force B-52 joins them

This was humiliating to the Chinese as USA is formerly colonial master of China and to this day even in the 21st century toys with Chinese sovereignty

Noticing all this drama Japanese decided to take advantage of Chinese by asserting in Senkaku

By now Indian military was brought to operational readiness for a potential war and India decided to counterattack by taking Chinese claimed mountain tops

There was no Chinese response to this

By then Chinese leadership realized getting its three holes filled by India, USA and Japan is not worth the pleasure

So China went on a "long march" back to its opium den

Had the Chinese only stuck to engaging India, the Ladakh episode would have continued much longer

Greed of Chinese leadership to take on both USA and India also, not consider potential Japanese action led to this outcome

@Chhatrapati , @Protest_again your thoughts

Wrong.
Just like India considers F3 to F8 to be Indian territory, China also considers F3 to F8 to be Chinese territory which means China is abandoning posts in own territory and is stopping even patrolling there.

Your pedo soldiers could have used them when they surrendered so easily

Who is this Lt Gen YK Joshi Shreya Dhoundial?

why does goi keep forwarding these hired goons masquerading as some sort of generals instead of coming forward and explaining why is goi settling for getting back only a couple of kilometres after loosing almost 1200 sq km to China without giving them a single casualty while loosing dozens of indian soldiers? that is the ultimate question. they need to answer...

Nah. China bought time from India. India would be good boy for next few years before it forgets the pain, no matter how US instigates India to provoke China again. China can focus all energy on US now.

It seems that you dont have a brain to get this?

Let me explain that to you:

According to your own media, F4-F8 were patrolled by both China and india side before April 2020, and after that, China denied india army from patrolling there.

Thats exact the trigger of later confrontation.

Then China has the proposal in Sept 2020:

OK, lets get a disengagement deal by remove our troop equally away from sites of confrontation.By doing so, China can remove troops in F4-F8, whilst india remove their troops back to F2/F3 and remove troops away from sites of Chuchulr whatever.

At that time, your generals rejected China's proposal, citing F4-F8 were newly controlled by China whilst F2/and sites at south Pango lake were in India's control for decades, so it is a unfair deal.

They insisted that China should remove their troop back to F8 and using F4 to F8 as a buffer instead, which is the situtation before Apr 2020.

But this year, for whatever reason you indians seems to take China's proposal, and this disengagment deal finally get done.

Thats why experts in China praised your government for being "flexiable and giving up their unrealistic goals to get the deal done this year".

Thats exactly what happened, even your generals wrote an article explain this to your stupid mass:

Directly from the above article written by your own general:

By agreeing on this deal, the india side effectly accept that F4-F8 belong to China, just about as much as F2/F3/Chushul belong to India, which is exactly China's goal at the moment.

Wrong. India constructed first post between F3 in May 2020 after standoff started. As per the deal status quo ante as of April 2020 must be restored. Which is why Vhina is dismantling all infra between F4 to F8.

China always controlled F4 to F8 as is proven by the fact that China had nuilt a metalle road till F4 from 1999
Chiense humilation was so severe they had even dismantle the map of China they drew near F5 along with large mandarin fonts in which 'China' was written near it.

Even more humilatingly they had to even dismantle the jetty and helipad

Panag is a member of opposition party so he has no credulity just like US General Mike Flynn has no credibilty on matters concerning Biden govt.
This means China wont be able to patrol its own territory (F4 to F8) Despite having a huge road there since 1999

If it is China who always control F4-F8 then why the outcry last year to begin with?

And why it is China, not india, who want both side to remove their troop away from F4? And why it is india, not China, who reject this last year?

Why it is india, not China, who accept the deal this time:rofl:, It seems that your general is smarter and more logical than you pathetic IQ 78 indian:rofl:

Because we like to reduce China's deployment near LAC as much as possible

The opposite happened. Listen to what General Joshi said. Chinese were unrelenting in talks before August 29 but after that PLA was desperate to get a face saver and accepted Indian November proposal
