BEIJING:Downplaying reports of cancellation of Chinese President Xi Jinping's maiden Pakistan visit, China today said the trip was never officially announced.

"We have never officially released any information about Xi's visit to Pakistan. Therefore there is no ground for you to say that we have cancelled the trip," Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang told a media briefing here.

Qin made the remarks while responding to a question on Xi calling off the visit due to security considerations in the wake of ongoing anti-government protests in Pakistan.

Though officially not announced, Xi was due to visit Pakistan, Sri Lanka and India in that order in the middle of this month.

Hectic preparations are underway for his India visit which is expected to be in third week of this month.

"China and Pakistan are friendly neighbours. We enjoy all weather friendship and cooperation in various fields. The two countries maintain close high level interactions. With regard to issues concerning high level visits between the two countries in the next step we are in close communication," Qin said.

China has already appealed twice to Pakistan government and protesting parties to settle their differences through dialogue.

Qin again appealed for political reconciliation in Pakistan to maintain domestic stability.

"We hope all relevant parties in Pakistan to make joint efforts to uphold domestic stability," he said.

Two days ago, Qin played down the reports of Xi contemplating cancelling the visit.

"As regards what has been mentioned in reports about President Xi's visit, I have no information to offer at the moment," Qin had said.

Protests have put Pakistan government under pressure. The protesters headed by Imran Khan and cleric Tahir-ul-Qadri have alleged vote rigging in last year's general election and are demanding Prime Minister Sharif's resignation.

Khan wants the ruling PML-N government's ouster over alleged rigging in last year's polls which his party lost, while Qadri wants to bring a revolution in the country. Both the leaders are agitating since August 14.

Lets hope the visit is still on as per schedule.

Meanwhile Ilzam Khan in his speech today has confirmed what his attitude is. The whole world knows he and his supporters are in the Red Zone of Islamabad attacking state properties and causing fear, but rather than accepting this, he does propaganda by saying government's containers caused cancellations of foreign leaders. In his second attempt he propagates they are not investments of $34 Billion but loans of $45 Billion. If this is how he sees this then someone should ask him what he did in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Cancellation of a friendly nation's highest leader is a bad bad indication for a country. The same leader visiting an enemy country just adds salt to the wound. :D

I don't think Chinese would cancel the visit... May be Xi's visit could calm the problem pakistan is facing for a month now

May be the ruling party advised the Chinese not to visit as the blame would fall on Imran khan and Qadri.. and looks like that is what is happening.

Our policy is not to interfere in the internal affairs of other countries.

The current political conflict within Pakistan is up to them to solve. Our close diplomatic relationship is with the nation/country of Pakistan, and not any specific politicians or parties.

Pakistan has 10+ Senior level vists to China every year, so will catch up on the next trip. In the meantime you continue alliance and naval exercises with the Japaenese Navy, arming the Vietnamese Navy and getting oil drilling contracts in the South China Sea.

@Pak_Sher don't thank my post please, since you accuse us of illegally occupying Xinjiang (what you can East Turkestan), which is directly against the spirit of my post, which is against interference in the internal affairs of other countries.

Not surprised, considering there is political turmoil galore in Pakistan now. Once it subsides things will go back to normal.

Not a good news,I don't know very well about the Pakistan politic, who in power of Pakistan is not our business, the Chinese president visit is not about to support a part or a government,it's about to show the friendship between the two states-China and Pakistan, especially he decided to visit Pakistan first, then India. Now the visit delayed, that means he will only visit India, not Pakistan, this give bad message to the outside(as far as I know, every Chinese leaders visited India, they would also visited Pakistan, this is a rule)
I heared Imran and PTI already formed a government in KPK,the people of KPK gave him and his party a chance,I think the better way for him is to develop the KPK,if he did well,in next election, the people of other province will see that,if he can't do well in KPK,then he can't do will in whole Pakistan either
