Team from China Academy of Engineering have finished the wind tunnel test of the hyper-sonic civil airplane that have a speed of 8600km/h, or Mach-7, the test results are very promising.

The plane have a sophasticate twin-wing design (see picture below), such design can increase the flight performance whilst reduce fuel-consumption. And according to the chief scientist of this project, the flight test will be start this year with a scaled-down model.

The plane can make a trip between Beijing to New York in 2 hours and can either be passenger airplane or cargo.

China has the world most advanced wind tunnels, including the one that can reach Mach-35.

"China Academy of Engineering finish wind tunnel test of a model airplane with promising results" is not nearly as catchy a headline as the one given to this thread. :D

interesting design. The Space Shuttle comes in at Mach 25...but only needs the big wings due to an unpowered landing. I would think Mach 7 would only need stubby wings. They would only need to be extended for landings.

Not a big thing for China as China was supposed to develop a Submarine moving at a speed of Mach 2.

Half length of the earth in just two hours.

If China able to reduce airport administration, it will increase efficiency greatly.

BTW, I just read an article saying that this is as a hypersonic missile, a threat to USA national security.

If something great invented by China or other countries, it's a threat.

But if something great invented in USA, it said as helping all humanity without ever thinking about the danger to other people.

Such wing moving mechanisms only serve to increase complexity that can be eliminated due to better designs. The key with such fast planes is to reduce or eliminate the sonic boom, a problem that the Concorde could not solve and limited its success.

If the odd wing design is for that then thumbs up to them.

The thing you dont get here is, this is reported in China, therefore the distance between some PPT from official side to a real product in China is highly likely to be significantly shorter than world normals, let along some world exceptions.

And have not you saw they get scaled-down model to test this year? Academy of Engineering is just like NASA in US, they have deep connection to China's aerospace industry.

I think for civil usage, it must pay special care to develop something with efficiency in mind, the kind of hyper sonic vehicle you saw usually dont even have a way to take off and climb to high attiude by itself, let along an economical/efficient one.

I would keep my doubts about this, for now.

Lets not play like as if you know anything in this aspect, let along better than hyper sonic wind tunnel tests.

How much mach India can achieve and then we also need formula to calculate in nautical miles to understand that Indian theory of Mach.
