Or else put two engines to makeup for the lost thrust.
Leaving too much burden on composites alone isnt a good idea.

That would require extensive changes that might potentially affect the mission of the aircraft.

Which would still have less thrust at 39,556 compared to the WS 15s 40,500lbs of thrust. And it says prototype testing will finish this year or the next. The WS 15 has already finished prototype testing last year.

Yes but the PAK FA will be lighter then the J-20, so it will have a better thrust-to-weight ratio:azn:

No, the PAK FA isn't. Not according to current estimates. Both maximum takeoff weights are around 37000 kg.

and their are estimates that the J-20 is big as the F-111, and if those estimates are true, then the J-20 cannot possibly be the same weight as the PAK FA. :agree:

depends on how you look at it.

what kind of progress we made by 1989? nothing. we can basically buy all those stuff and we did that. we lost everything!
we Chinese are in general very happy about the 1989 sanction, it pushed us to the limit and we are now delivering results.

I got it! Ever wondered why we saw two different nozzle configurations in WS-10? Apparently the the differences in engine bay designs of J-10 & J-11 necessitated two different versions of WS-10.

Too bad the two versions are not fully interchangeable, whereas the F110 can be swapped between F-15K/SG & F-16C without modification.
Persoanlly I think it's retarded to modify the engine to suit the aircraft, needlessly complicating the logistic: you end up with two non-interchangeable engines instead of a single fleet-wide type that could be "borrowed" between J-10 & J-11 units; yet because of the common mechanical design, they would still potentially share the same bugs that may or may not surface in the future.

There are also more accurate estimates based upon the length of the two truck next to the plane as well as comparisons with satellite images that indicate the plane is 20-21 meters long.
