Railways hikes fare for children from 5 to 12 years
As per the revised rules, full adult fare will be charged for children between 5 and 12 years of age if a berth/seat is sought for them in the reserved class.

There will be no change in the fare of unreserved tickets, and the charges will continue to be half of the adult fare.
Railways has decided to charge the full ticket fare for children between the ages of five and 12 from April next year, effectively bringing in a fare hike for children well before Rail Budget 2016.
As per the revised rules, full adult fare will be charged for children between 5 and 12 years of age if a berth/seat is sought for them in the reserved class. In case a berth/seat is not sought, half the adult fare will be charged.
There will be no change in the fare of unreserved tickets, and the charges will continue to be half of the adult fare.
The revised rule shall be applicable from April 2016. The exact date of commencement of this provision will be notified separately later, according to a statement issued by the railways.
Rail fare increased 4 times ServiceTax up by 2.5%,
Other side CorporateTax reduced to 25%from30%.

Listen mate,thanks to the utter incompetence of the Congressi regime for the greater part of the last 7 decades most of the ordinary Indians have become habituated in getting all kinds of benefits by the GoI without even paying a buck for the services.Due to decades of subsidy policy by the Congressi Govt. Indians have grown a habit of expecting all kinds of subsidies.Heck,even in case of the Income tax only 2-3% of the ordinary Indians pay taxes due to the ridiculously high tax free slab declared by the GoI over the years.Just take the example of USA,there nearly 45% of the working population pay taxes to the Govt.Have it ever crossed your mind that how the MoR is supposed to run the railway in an efficient manner without raising the fares!!

I think we Indians need to come out of welfare attitude.
CONgrass has been feeding people with low fares, subsidies, reservations and all kind of non sense.
In 1980 and 1990s when people salaries were limited, it was understandable. But Indian people's earnings have increased by leaps and bounds now.
We want clean railways, we want clean platforms, we want faster trains, we want better facilities in railways. But we mentally do not want to pay for facilities.
In western nations, if you want facilities and a life of certain level you have to pay for it.
We are shameless when we ask for 50-100% rise when we change job. We are shameless when we ask for 20% increment, We are shameless when we buy house with 30-40% black money and show only 60-70% white, we are shameless when we buy plot of land or agriculture land and show only 20-30% actual price to save revenue tax. We have so many shops, who do all business in Cash.... Imagine how much tax they evade? They sell us 20Rs pepsi or coke with 2Rs surcharge when MRP is 20Rs....2Rs for cooling says fcker...but does he pay any VAT or TAX...answer is NO....I can bet 75-80% shops do not pay taxes..They have 2-3 or more shops but still they hardly pay taxes..Indians are the worst even in donation or helping charities..We have largest # of charity trusts in world, how many Indians help? 90% come from the western nations.
When we are so shameless for our own greed, why are we so intolerant to pay for good and better services?

But at end of the day when i see facilities in NL, i am convinced my money is used in proper way and i am benefiting from those facilities.

How can we raise the level and quality of public transport systems, if there is no money in treasury? Dhak ne ke liye dhak denge like last 50 years. how will we get to next level?

- I pay 52% tax per month/year
- I pay house tax every year (700 something Euros)
- I pay waste garbage tax (800 euros every year)
- I pay 85 Euros tax for my car every month
- I pay 21% VAT on everything groceries to house bills to services as charge
- By accident if i travel within city in public transport, cost of 3 Euros per hour...within city (tram or bus)
- I pay 150 Euros for Electricity and Gas per month
- I pay 1.51 cents per liter for Petrol
- I pay 250 Euros per month as HEALTH INSURANCE
- I pay 70 Euros a month (house insurance + liability insurance)
In return for all this
- My children get free school
- Almost free swimming, aikido classes
- My wife gets 120 Euro monthly allowance
- Best NHS and best roads
- Best Internet speed 50Mbps
- Best drainage, storm drainage, city roads
- 24hr Electrictity
- Water in taps is drinking water
- All my problems solved within 5 mins after placing a phone call
- All my municipality issues solved within 5 mins, when i am at muncipality
- All government reminders and etc everything in advance, no emotional atyachar
- Doctor and medicine is free
In India you can show MF's, insurance, House buying and all and claim tax benefits in ADVANCE.... YAHA aise nahi hain... REBATE only on 1st house, no benefits if you take MFs or ULIPS or any insurances or such investments.....2nd house ga-nd marao is govt says.... savings interest here is 1%.... govt does not give 8 or 9% like India....encourages you to spend money and keep it rolling....
It is mandatory here to have a social security number to get a JOB or open a BANK account. MANDATORY FOR EMPLOYER TO INFORM LABOR DEPARTMENT WHEN ANYONE JOINS OR LEAVES THE JOB...
TAXES DEDUCTED FROM SALARY.... NO REASONS.
NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU EARN LESS OR MORE, YOU HAVE TO FILL TAX FORMS EVERY YEAR... IF YOU DO NOT, YOU GET A LETTER AT HOME....3 TIMES LETTER...
IF YOU DO NOT REPLY OR DO THE NEEDFUL, YOUR 4TH APPOINTMENT IS IN THE COURT....

Isn't it about concession fares? What's wrong with children getting free or discounted tickets? When I was an exchange student in Australia, I also got concession tickets(50%) for public transport and railway.

So? They are not adults. I think it's totally ok to change the ticket fares for adults when necessary. But children and students? Concession for students and children is universal, with a full seat.

I completely understand the financial problems of a big railway system. But resorting to charging children and students is a little bit irrational. Really bold measure is to directly increase ticket fares of regular passengers, though which is impossible in China.

I remember kids under certain height only need to pay 1/4 of the normal fare on Chinese trains. Is it still in effect?

They are only charged full adult fare if they want to reserve tickets (which generally means they will not be affected in any major financial way since people that reserve tickets are generally doing ok). Unreserved tickets (which are what the lower income people go for most of the time) will still keep the concession fare for kids.
