Chennai: German teen raped in moving train
In another shocking instance of crimes against women, a German girl volunteer has been allegedly raped by a man in a moving train bound for Chennai.
The 18-year-old girl had boarded a train bound for Chennai from Mangalore in Karnataka on January 10 and was sharing the lower berth with Chandan Kumar, a 22-year-old carpenter from Bihar who works in Chennai, as a RACpassenger.
Persons with RAC ticket have to share the lower berth in the two-tier sleeper coaches in passenger and express trains.
The German girl alleged in a police complaint filed on 13 that she was raped by the person in the moving train when she was asleep. The girl wh o volunteers with a NGO said she was too scared to shout for help when the man made advances and forced himself on her.
“We picked up the Bihari youth within 24 hours of receiving the complaint. At present he is under our custody and we will conduct an identification parade before remanding him in judicial custody,” said Seema Aggarwal, inspector general of police, government railway police, Tamil Nadu.
Since the passengers have to give details and phone number, we could trace the accused within a short time, she said.
“It is not the question of whether the rape was committed or not. The very moment there is a complaint, we have to arrest the person and conduct the identification parade,“ the police official said.
