CHENGDU REPORTEDLY ACHIEVES MILESTONE IN JF-17 BLOCK-III DEVELOPMENT

“preliminary design stage” based on the already proven design of the JF-17 Block 2.. in other words “preliminary modifications design stage
correct, this the reason why we are looking at time frame of 2020. the reason why i am hoping its major upgrade like NG to gripen C, i think they have completed and fixed all requirement next stage will protoype/small production hopefully by late 2018/early 2019 and serial production by 2020

this is "if" this news is correct, i dont see why a simpler upgrade will take this much time(4 years2016-2019)

i think 2018 and may be 2019 will be block 2 and jf-17 B production years

this is also why if PAF cannot sponcer thunder funding they should not spend money on buying a foreign fighter, which i think what the top brass is thinking..or we simply dont have anything

my circle doesnt have much infos regarding JF-17's future upgrades as a whole, but few of its subsystems I know that are quite awesome in the category of its own.

Its radar and EW system are very effective if not most to its peer````However, there are bottlenecks that confinds its capability, namely: air-frame, power plant and most importantly the budget``````

as you said, modern air-combat is executed in a network centric combat system, a plan is acting as a panel point in the system. An inferior plane can out run a superior plane if its environment awareness is well supported by the system. So to PAF's prior requirement to JF-17 is to be an effective executor in its air-combat system. But when condition is allowed, why not to have better radar, engine and EW system? :lol: ```

A couple of recent rumors are stating that the WS-19 prototype is under construction; is this true? There are also rumors that the FC-31 design has won the PLAN tender.

WS-19 medium thrust engine has been incorporated into two projects that were strictly classified``I dont know how you are going to interpret this, but to us it basically means, WS-19's project is smooth and mature, otherwise it wont be incorporated into classified project of PLAAF```classified project is huge deal to us`````

the "tender" for PLAN's 5th gen stealth fighter was over for some times```nobody won nobody lose```its win-win for all of the stakeholders````

Block III is a just a capability upgrade from block 2. I am old fashioned, i dont get excited about this stuff. A few new systems? a few new gadgets? I would get interested if they find a new engine for the bird, if they change the wing, etc. None of that is happening. For me, AESA or current radar is the same. It does the job. The big question is serviceability. PAF needs to ensure everything is integrated, and the Chinese hardware is now removed to something that is sustainable and will last them 20 years.
Sir. This is where it gets interesting.
My questions to you are
A. How do you want the JFT to be modified as an aviator. What benefits in your opinion will it bring and would it be worth the hassle and money. Do you see those changes coming into later blocks or not? And why?
B. How in your opinion do you see PAF going with its acquisition cycle and how do you see the fleet evolving in the next 5 and 10 yrs.
Only your opinion so there wont be any cause for concern to higher ups.

Serious answer to you is, that war against typhoon rafale and f15 would be fought at standoff ranges in a network centric environment, for which JF17 is well capable. Kindly review your own experts who have declared so called made in india (Dassault abandoned design, less capable export Mirage copy) LCA as obsolete and 20 years behind. No wonder Ajit Duval get blackmailed by French to buy Rafale...and now begging others to give you a single engine aircraft. So is every DRDO program, a total failure, Arjun, Akash and everything else. Its easy to buy radars from Poland and call them Rohini. You can still be the child that you are, or look at your own country.

What could be the possible projects? I don't think there are many projects which are in such phase where you can integrate a new engine of WS-19 category....... right now i can only recall FC-31, Project AZM & JF-17 as possible projects where WS19 could make reality. Does Anyone knows or recall any other possible project for WS-19 engine category?

well its classified````same as H-20, stealth UAVs, carrier based 5th gen stealth fighter and couple of other projects````

A "classified PLA project" implies that the PLA has a requirement for it, no?

Because it doesn't make sense? If the UAV doesn't require an afterburning WS-19, if there's no evidence that the FC-31 has been selected for the naval tender, and if the PLAAF has no plans to procure the JF-17, why would the WS-19 need to be classified as such?

Ähhhm, YES, but is that a problem? Then just leave the AB-section. My point was simply for what kind of "secret" project an engine like the WS-19 would fit, and IMO as a more modern successor to the WS-13/RD-93 a variant (w.o. AB) would fit perfectly.

not that simple to "just leave the afterburn stage"```the thrust will reduce dramatically``(even though WS-19's dry thrust is around 6T, but without "not working" AB stage, it will affect the dry thrust with big deal)``therefore they have to increase upperstage's temperature to certain degree, which caused blade, sealant and material problems, and also they have to gather new data for new calculations`````````

highly classified, I dont know what they are``but a convenient guess would be AC based 5th gen stealth fighter, and UAVs, but could be something else```
