CCPO files leave till by-election

CCPO Chaudhry Shafique on Tuesday formally filed a request with the provincial police chief to get earned leave till the Aug 22 by-election.

Sources privy to the development told Dawn that Mr Ahmad took the decision due to his younger brother Chauhdry Gulzar who is contesting by-election from PP-161 on PML-N ticket. The seat had vacated by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

Sources said Mr Shafique had written to the IGP that he didn’t want to continue till the holding of by-election to maintain fairness and impartiality so he should be granted leave from Aug 1 to 23.

They said it was likely the Punjab government would accept the leave application and Mr Ahmad would relinquish the charge of his office.

Sources said DIG (Operations) Tahir Rai or any senior officer from the Central Police Office could be assigned the additional charge of the office. — Staff Reporter
