LAHORE: The government has decided to issue debit cards to 2.6 million beneficiaries under the Direct Cash Subsidy Programme.

This was decided at a meeting of the cabinet committee on the Direct Cash Subsidy Programme held on Monday. The meeting was presided over by Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan.

In the first phase, 1.2 million beneficiaries of the Pakistan Income Support Programme (PISP) in the province will be issued debit cards to replace smart cards.

Khan said people excluded from last year’s lists be could file their appeals before their tehsil office for correction and inclusion of their names.

He said people with disabled, elderly or child dependants could register for the programme.

He said people who owned in access of three marlas could not register.

The minister said the lists would be finalised in a month.

The meeting also finalised a roadmap for disbursement of funds to 1.4 million new beneficiaries in the province in the second phase of the Direct Cash Subsidy Programme.

The meeting decided that a coordination committee headed by the chief secretary would coordinate with the PISP. A special committee, comprising MPA Ayesha Ghaus, Food Secretary Muhammad Aslam Kamboh and Food Director Captain (r). Muhammad Usman Younas was constituted to meet with the PISP team and work out solutions for case management, complaint processing and determining new criteria for beneficiaries of the programme.
