Case for Su-34 as MMRCA

Su-32FN-Weps-PLA-N.png
What case is there? The Su-34 doesn't meet the most basic of criteria for the Multi-role Medium Combat Aircraft, MMRCA.

The Su-34 has all the worst traits of the Su-27/30 series i.e. low availability, troublesome maintainability, high life cycle costs all without any of the positives i.e. super-manoeuvrability and multi-role capability.

IDRW at its best.....

Shiv aroor a Prominent journalist in his recent tweet confirmed that Russia indeed has offered Sukhoi-35 to India in case negotiation with France to purchase Dassault made Rafale fails to materialise before deadline. While he was able to confirm Russia’s offer but still there is no clarity about recent comments made by Rostec CEO Sergey Chemezov that India and Russia have agreed to jointly build 5th-generation fighter aircraft based on Su-35.

Deal or no deal on purchase of Rafale, Induction of additional air superiority aircrafts will not be easy for Indian air force since they will not be able to fill the gap left by failure to procure aircrafts under MMRCA requirements, which had asked for multi-role capable aircrafts. Indian air force chief in recently concluded Aero India air show made it clear that he want MMRCA aircrafts and it doesn’t have to be Rafale but certainly not additional Su-30 aircrafts. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had said few months back that if Rafale deal doesn’t materialise there is always option to go for an upgraded Su-30 aircraft which can fulfill the requirements of Indian air force, what he basically meant was that Sukhoi-30 can be further optimized in its strike capability.

With FGFA already in the pipeline and Su-30 already in the fleet, induction of another Air superiority fighter aircraft will make Indian air force heavily tilted towards “Air superiority” roles and will diminish its strike attack capability . In case India decides to Induct another fighter aircraft from Sukhoi family rather then additional Su-30, it could be wise to actually induct Su-34 Strike bomber aircraft then Su-35. Case for Su-34 should be considered since IAF will be putting half of its Mig-27 strike aircrafts fleet in Reserve from this year on wards and in next 5 years remaining fleet will be pulled out of active duties and Jaguars will be only Strike aircrafts which will be left in the fleet.

MMRCA contract heavily favored Strike attack capability of aircrafts over Air superiority roles, in fact MMRCA requirement were born after current strike aircrafts (Jaguar and Mig-27) were found not suitable to carry out surgical strikes in high mountain terrain of Kargil sector in Kargil war with Pakistan, While Point defence aircrafts like Mig-21, when used against target in high mountains, failed to make any impact. It was Mirage-2000 aircrafts which came in handy to take out the target in difficult terrain. MMRCA requirements favoured aircraft with multi-role capability and scored high on strike capability of the aircraft.

Su-34 is primarily designed for tactical operation against mobile and ground targets; aircraft has entirely new nose and forward fuselage giving it a distinctive look apart from Sukhoi-27/30 family. Aircraft also shares wing structure, tail, engine nacelles and canards with Su-30 family is also powered by same AL-31 engines. With 12 hard points, it can carry 12000 kgs of ordnance. With the help of front and rear mounted radars aircraft can fire R-73 missile from behind towards any chasing enemy aircraft without entering into a dogfight or turning the aircraft providing it enough self-protecting weapons suite and ability to multirole while still been in enemy airspace. Advantage of Su-34 over Su-35 is that aircraft is already in large scale production and eventually will replace close to 300 Su-24 ground attack aircrafts, while Su-35 along with Pak-Fa and Su-30SM will be inducted in equal numbers meaning smaller production runs of each aircraft types, making them more expensive

Umm.. a very important question..
Is there any other russian platform left which can be MMRCA equivalent as per russians. It does not matter if its light, medium or heavy or bomber or anything else also.. Just which can be offered as MMRCA?
Need to understand what new articles can come in future..

Hi
This is quite frustrating now. We are inducting about jets 16 per year and retiring double of that. Shouldn't we order a couple of squadron of Mig 29s as stop gaps. They can replace some Mig 21s quickly and very cheaply. I am not taking Mig 35 as it's not worth it's cost presently. I stand to be corrected if wrong. This is just an opinion.
Cheers
Thanks

Lol of course there is! It's called the MiG-35 and it was offered in the MMRCA competition and we all know what happened....

What makes you think MiG-29s would be delivered quick enough to act as a stop-gap? In the long term, more twin engined Russian fighters would be a liability for the IAF not an asset.

OurNuclear strike force should be armed with these beasts and for deep strike missions before our boys can have free run with their jets. But for MMRCA no better option than Rafale . Our upgraded Mirage 2000I is very superior to Pakistani F16s And rafale is a whole new platform for Multi Role operation. Especially for the Chinese . Now China will have brothers time to spot Rafale with their Soviet and Russian ripoff fighter jets. We need Rafale !!!

We are supposed to buy 50 some deep strike fighters for nuclear force. And adding Su34 will be much more powerfull than any other fighters in Asia. This beast can shed some 12000 T of playloads with huge range and terrains hugging radar with wide range of missiles including Brahmos or other upcoming cruise missiles it will send a pure bloody warning to our neighborhood .

i thik we can induct 20 of these beast apart from rafale for deep strike

.
124 Rafale for multi role

50-60 Su34 ( with upgrade ) just dedicated for deep strike missions will give enough space to replace our strikers Jags and Mig 27 . Since Rafale is an omni role it can be used for other operations aswell such has Destroying land target or sea target or Air superiority . Though our MMRCA highly sided towards ground attack capabilities of the contenders Rafal and EF was selected for their superior Air superiority capabilities . So Rafael and Su34, Super sukoi , Pakfa , Su35S all have different roles for IAF. And I wonder why our Indian friends are so worried about Russian Fighters and have more Russian jets?

These fighters are most feared by the west. Because these Russian fighters are made to defeat any western fighters . We are very happiest Customer of Russian fighter technology. So also stop saying we must investment this money in to AMCA or Tejas . Then what? you get MMRCA and MK2 in just few years? till then our Pilots should risks flying these outdated fighters? like Migs and jags ? Foolish. We need to for the math right about how much we need to take in China and Pakistan without anyone help. This 40+ squadron requirement is very old. We need to take last 3-5 years as the baseline to formulate our Vision for our Airforce fleet for the future. So going for more cheap and most importantly better Fighter jets of Russia will help us to defend our mother land and people in very near future conflict if it hhappens. No one can say war issue joke. which is actually a joke to say that war won't happened because economy is important. Let me tell you no one give a Fu ck about what will happens to global economy . War is on the basis of ideology not economically. If so poor countries will declare then as a free state as they don't have money ! So India Pakistan or Indo China war is more possible than we think. Small human error will leads to full blown nuclear attack on each other. Am just saying it's possible. So 20 billion $ is a good investment for Rafael and Su 34 will be a good addition for deep strike missions inside China.

The requirement for 40 fighters for the SFC will likely be met either the Rafale or MKI in the future.

Why not have Su34 insteed of Su30 for our nuclear strike force and as a replacement of Mig 27 sole strike aircraft of IAF next to jags.

SU-34 is a bomber jet not Fighter like Rafale

It's a Fighter Bomber not the sole bomber. Usually these are made to strike deep inside US and Europe . During the mission these fighters are armed to teeth to take care of any air threats . This very aircraft have ability to attack any aircraft behind it's tails so making Dog ffight so dumb kind of theory. With these missiles now pilot can position himself when the enemy aircrafts evading back ward pointed missiles fired by Su34 . It's a great addition to our IAF fleet . 6 Su34 amounts to 72 T of playload . With 4000 some km range it can turn the tide on eastern borders all along Tibet and other major cities or army installation deep inside Chine like underground missile silos

Why have a single-role fighter that requires escorts for such a crucial role when you can have multi-role fighters requiring no escorts? The days of single role fighters being commonplace are over, the IAF will be (as they should be) inducting only multi-role fighters henceforth.

.
This is the sole aircraft capable of doing a succecfull strike mission inside chinese land,I repeat China not tibet.

another wishful thread basing on Sukhoi . man , why dont ppl just shut the feck up on MMRCA. mindless speculation on a case that is delayed mindlessly . and btw its gazillionth thread on mmrca.whenever i see a thread on mmrca i just :hitwall::hitwall::blah::blah::blah::cuckoo::cuckoo:.

In case we are really looking at a fighter bomber why not postpone our purchase to say closer to 2030 when our deep strike platforms are closer to retirement. Surely Mirages now have another 15 years and Darin III will help us also for 12-15 years. By then perhaps a 5th generation fighter bomber may be available or may be unveiled like PAK -DA. Perhaps IAF may able to have a doctrine which may use such strategic assets.
