Canada Closes Embassy in Iran, Expels Iranian Diplomats from Canada

September 7, 2012 – Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today issued the following statement:

“Canada has closed its embassy in Iran, effective immediately, and declared personae non gratae all remaining Iranian diplomats in Canada.

“Canada’s position on the regime in Iran is well known. Canada views the Government of Iran as the most significant threat to global peace and security in the world today.

“The Iranian regime is providing increasing military assistance to the Assad regime; it refuses to comply with UN resolutions pertaining to its nuclear program; it routinely threatens the existence of Israel and engages in racist anti-Semitic rhetoric and incitement to genocide; it is among the world’s worst violators of human rights; and it shelters and materially supports terrorist groups, requiring the Government of Canada to formally list Iran as a state sponsor of terrorism under the Justice for Victims of Terrorism Act.

“Moreover, the Iranian regime has shown blatant disregard for the Vienna Convention and its guarantee of protection for diplomatic personnel. Under the circumstances, Canada can no longer maintain a diplomatic presence in Iran. Our diplomats serve Canada as civilians, and their safety is our number one priority.

“Diplomatic relations between Canada and Iran have been suspended. All Canadian diplomatic staff have left Iran, and Iranian diplomats in Ottawa have been instructed to leave within five days.

“Canadians in Iran seeking routine consular and passport services should contact the Embassy of Canada in Ankara, Turkey, or any other Canadian mission. Those who require urgent assistance should contact the Emergency Watch and Response Centre in Ottawa, by calling collect at 613-996-8885 or by sending an email to sos@international.gc.ca.

“Canada has updated its Travel Reports and Warnings to advise Canadians to avoid all travel to Iran. Canadians who have Iranian nationality are warned in particular that the Iranian regime does not recognize the principle of dual nationality. By doing so, Iran makes it virtually impossible for Government of Canada officials to provide consular assistance to Iranian-Canadians in difficulty.”

Souldn't be ignored that the current Canadian government has a pro-Israel, neocon bias unmatched even by the US government. The problem isn't so much Iran, but Canada's own ideological extremism. Under that Stephen Harper buffoon, it has become a caricature of what the US was under Bush, emulating and exaggerating the worst qualities of the US neocons' rhetoric.

Do you guys have news papers in Arabestan???

Last week 120 countries around the world sent their presidents, Prime Ministers and FM to Iran for the NAM summit. They passed a resolution supporting Iran's nuclear program. That's 2/3 of the United Nations.

Your own country sent a high ranking official lmao

what a wahabi

P.S. There is a thread already running on this

wahabi, Iran has already won. Our Bushehr buclear facility has been online for a year now. In the entire history of humanity, not a single live nuclear facility has ever been targetted. That's no different than throwing an atomic bomb on the region (btw, a hit on bushehr would erase Kuwait and half of UAE lol).

Iran is already enriching over 20 percent and our plutonium reactor (IR-40) will be ready in a couple of years (being built without foreign help). IR-40 is an experimental reactor for Iran, but it gives enough plutonium for 2 atomic bombs a year. We already have enought enriched uranium for 5-6 bombs. We also have the know how and the technology. If the Americans make the slightest wrong move, we would pull out of the NPT and have a functioning bomb in months.

wahabi, you're literally too much of a noob to even get angry at. When you make wise *** comments, try not to look like a complete noob.

Strike from whom? Israel?

Anyway, as Abii said... you can't strike a functioning nuclear reactor without causing massive radioactive contamination to the entire region. Which is a war crime under international law.

All nuclear reactors that have ever been targeted in history, were hit during the building stages, before they ever came online.

And the problem is...? Nobody on the aggressor's side cried over Hiroshima, Nagasaki or the use of Agent Orange in Vietnam or Depleted Uranium shells in Iraq. What makes you think that this is any different ?

Because America's own allies are the ones who are going to get contaminated by the radiation?

Also, I did a history class on the Vietnam War. And yes, Agent Orange WAS a big deal back then, so was the use of Napalm. Eventually leading to the American withdrawal, and the victory of North Vietnam over South Vietnam (which no longer exists in the world).

very much different.

The Japanese weren't an order away from a bomb. Iran has enriched uranium waiting to be enriched to 90+ percent and has all the other parts ready for assembly. Heck, we have 20+ percent enriched uranium stock piled already. A pull out of the NPT, an order from the govt and about 2-3 months is all we need to nuke Israel. The reality is they wanted to use our peaceful program to take back Iran and they failed.

Oh and you need to look at a map. The radiation would kill more puppet arabs, oil sheikhs and Americans in the bases around the region than Iranians.

Well, there exists a hierarchy amongst allies as well...

There were even thoughts on nuking Vietnam to ensure a face saving exit for the United States. So yeah, nothing can be taken as guaranteed.

To quote President Obama; ''All options are on the table". To create a hypothesis wrt. they might/they probably will is of no pragmatic use.

Bombing a nuclear reactor is going to create a fallout but since it doesn't create a fission reaction, the radiation levels can be considered to be minimal.

I'm not sure why we're discussing something like this. Might as well discuss whether aliens exist or not. Buddy, nobody's going to bomb a live reactor. On top of that Iran already has enought enriched uranium and the tech to create the bomb within months. ON TOP of that we have built a new facility up north (FORDO) that's enriching at even a faster rate than Natanz. The only reason 90+ percent uranium isn't being enriched is that we don't want to make a bomb. Any aggression by the West and you'll have FORDO producing HEU. But not that we need it. 5 nukes with 20+% enriched uranium is enough to erase Israel if they decide to nuke Iran (by bombing bushehr they would be nuking Iran and that's how it will be seen).
