Behind the scenes, I very much doubt there is a "conflict". It is more likely, that both nations wish to portray a notion of conflict just to keep the rest of the world remotely optimistic.

Israel already attacked the US at least once in the past when it nearly sank the USS Liberty in 1967. However, there is no need for a shooting conflict between the US and Israel for the US to pressure Israel. All the US would need to do is stop giving financial and military aid to Israel and to stop vetoing UN Security Council resolutions that were objected to by Israel. The US has many tools at its disposal to bend Israel's will. The issue is whether the US has the will to do it.

What we are seeing between US & Israel is a ' correction factor' being applied to rectify a pronounced drift towards Israel by the previous US administration. This is necessary to keep the other players in Mid east on board & to project a new image of the US to the Islamic world.

That it will ever lead to a hostile situation is wishful thinking.
