We really need to spend more money on our educations. Also, need to focus on our curriculum.

I fear if we are going to see more of these kind of incidents. If we won't spend on quality of eduction there are high probabilities for more to see such horrible incidents.

The military was only part of the problem when it prevented reform. Members of the CII and various scholars in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iran and Turkey who issue perverted injunctions don't do so because of some nexus with the Pakistan Military. The military used these people in Pakistan in the past, just as ZaBhutto did and now Nawaz is doing. The problem existed before the military and will continue to exist independent of the military.

There's a tendency to look for simplistic solutions and grab ones favorite scapegoat to assign blame to (in this case the Pakistani military), but this cancer is socio-cultural and can only be addressed by reforms by civilians, reforms that civilians themselves are currently reluctant to undertake.

Not when it comes to religion - we have many educated individuals who support intolerance, hate and open discrimination against Ahmadis and openly support violence against others for 'speech' (Blashemy and what not).

I'm not arguing against increased investment in and reform of education, just pointing out that without a concurrent effort to reform traditional Islam, investment in education is only going to yield limited results. And you can't even have this discussion (of reforming traditional interpretations of Islam) widely and openly in society without an outright repeal of the Blasphemy laws and laws against Ahmadis because these laws are a continuing symbol of the very repression and intolerance that has prevented the reform and societal discourse on reform that we need.

You're a bit out-dated; Pakistan isnt Afghanistan or North Korea. 99% of the Madrassas teach us about peace, paying taxes, behavior, respect, and even patriotism; meanwhile 'Military establishments' provide the best facilities and education in Pakistan.

What little I know about Islam. .I would say that Indian Muslim are partly to be blamed for introducing the deobandi and jammati school of thought..This extreme school of thought metamorphoses into something totally hideous once it mixes with wahaabi, salafi ideologies..

A sizeable percentage of the sub continent sunnis follow this ideology..There are 56 salafi mosques in India for example. e.g.

The salafis have started making local chapters of their sect now..All of them are potential future terrorists - one wonders what's the government doing about it?.

but wouldn't removing the mullas constitute an act of reform in itself ?

doubt it can be done but I think religion is on it's way out anyway, eventually in the long term the muslims too will (hopefully) get fed up of it and move on, and that being the endgame, removing the clerics might well prove to be an important first step.

It'll take a ballsy and brutal dictator to initiate it, I've no faith in any sort of collective awakening, just not going to happen as long as the mullas still rule.
