Can LCA Tejas do a 90 Degree vertical climb right after a slow speed take-off?

Don't know. LCA Tejas is still under development, and has not appeared in any international airshows. Its capabilities are still being tested, and refined and improved. Even the IAF does not know all its capabilities yet, and indeed, has not begun evaluating it - its HAL pilots who are test flying it currently.

But please post such random questions about the Tejas in the sticky tejas thread, instead of opening new threads for the same.

@Aeronaut @Oscar : Please move to sticky thread.

As an aside, I was looking at the capabilities of the mig-29 UPG, and found myself wondering why the IAF did not purchase more of these beasts in the past, or is not purchasing a few of these (second hand) now and upgrading them to UPG standads. They (the UPG ones) can easily confound any fighter in the PAF, and comes dirt cheap, compared to european aircrafts. For the price of one Rafale, we could get 5 second hand mig-29 UPGs.

So it cannot do it even after 30 years of development. Not surprised at all. Thanks for answering.

If stupid topics like Modi shittt completely unrelated to defence can be opened, a legitimate defence topic cannot? Indian Logic at its best?

who said it cannot do it? All janon said was that we have to wait till it gets its FOC. then only we will know exactly what it can do and what it cannot. But theoretically it is possible for Tejas.

cmg to ur 2nd question. there is a sticky thread for tejas discussions but there isn't one for Modi. so please think before talking.

This is called comprehension fail. Do they have elementary reading comprehension exercises where you live? If they do, I would strongly suggest enrolling for one.

Mhhh good question, wikipedia says it has a TWR of 1.07....

But the given source of that information does not give away anything about the TWR.

But if you look at the engine thrust which is 9,163 kg and the take of weight (clean) which is 9500 kg you can see that the TWR is under 1.

Its all in the official government website

1) Watch this video,

2) you are wrong about 30 year delay, it is actually Gandhi's idea to have an own fighter hence more than 65 years old.

"Dont know" is just a tactful way of saying LCA cannot do it right now. Even after 30 years of development LCA still cannot do a simple vertical take-off which a 1970's MiG-29 can perform with ease.

So you Indians now want a sticky for Modi? wow!!
That LCA sticky is mainly for progress and test flight info, not for cold hard questions.

The above video, it just utrns right an does a 45 degree climb. Even a cessna can do that

Thank you!

How can the LCA replace the MiG-21 when it cannot even do the MiG-21s interceptor role??? MiG-21 can dash up like a rocket during interception. LCA is such a poor aircraft. pity.

Yes it can.

Thank you!

Well can you tell how? India has been using MiG 21s when you were dreaming of having one.

Si I pretty well think that the LCA is much better than the MiG 21s.

@Riaz Hussain

1.) Mig 29 was introduced in the later half of the 80s not the 70s.

2.) Many 4th gen fighters have a TWR under 1, including your JF 17, which means that they cannot rocket upwards like planes with a TWR over 1 (Sukhoi 27/30 family, Mig 29 family).

JF 17 has a TWR of 0.95 so it cannot climb with its engines only, like the Tejas!

From the PAC official website
PAKISTAN AERONAUTICAL COMPLEX KAMRA

If you guys are interested in this, you can calculate it by yourself fairly easily.
