Cabinet approves to set up counter-Terrorism Centre.

Place: New Delhi | Agency: PTI, DNA

Cabinet Committee on Security on Thursday gave its approval to set up the National Counter-Terrorism Centre, a brainchild of P Chidambaram.

The NCTC — aimed at preventing and countering 26/11 kind Mumbai terror attacks —has been hanging fire for almost two years because of several glitches and misgivings.

Basically meant to collate and analyse information and translate it into actionable intelligence, the NCTC is expected to be a separate body under the control of the MHA.

The NCTC would replace the now functional multi-agency centre (MAC) and make the flow of information, with the help of National Intelligence Grid (Natgrid), smooth among various intelligence agencies...

Its a very good decision but they have deleted a very vital element and that is its own separate cadre.

In the original version it was to have its own wing RAW to carry out operation but now it will be dependent of different state intelligence/SITs + IB + RAW.

I'm surprised the Finance Ministry did not raise any objections.

Is trolling is compulsory on every thread??

Excuse me? Bringing up the finance ministry into this is justified. Or haven't you read about their latest fling with the MoD's infrastructure/troop upgradation plan in the N.E sector?
